Scope
The project is a restoration and upgrade of century old brick facades and areas of masonry roofs, of 1950s brick and aluminum curtain wall stair towers, and of 1980s precast concrete facades. Work includes extensive brick repointing at facades, limestone repointing at dome and ziggurats, removal and replacement of spalled and cracked standard and glazed brick, removal and selective replacement of wood windows, removal and complete replacement of aluminum curtain wall system, extensive joint sealant replacement and joint redesign at precast concrete facades, stabilization and restoration of deteriorated exposed structural steel and its concrete encasement, and removal and reconstruction of areas of stucco finish.
A Schematic Design/Design Development level report including survey of existing conditions and proposed restoration work as submitted to the Museum by Architectural Preservation Studio in 2016 are attached. Text, photographic backup, and drawings are all included in the report.
REVISED PI SUBMISSION February 13, 2020:
In March of 2019, DDC produced an FEP Report with a cost estimate and Strategy Board conclusions that indicated the proposed scope of envelope renovation was underfunded. In July of 2019, the Brooklyn Museum was allocated additional capital funding to renovate a Brooklyn Museum chosen scope of envelope work. Below is the proposed scope of envelope work and a revised cost estimate based on the previous DDC FEP estimate:
