Legal Name Of Organization
New York Foundation for Senior Citizens, Inc.
Purpose Of Funds
The Foundation utilizes the funds to administer, supervise and provide its Home Sharing and Respite Care Program's services, which helps to prevent institutionalization, to adults residing in Council District #3, especially those over age 60. The home sharing component of this city-wide program matches compatible persons free of charge in shared living arrangements in dwellings rented or owned by one or more of the paticipants. One or both matchmates must be aged 60 or over. The in-home respite care component of this program provides certified in-home attendants at the low rate of $7.15 an hour plus carfare, for frail elderly persons who are attempting to manage at home alone or with the help of caregivers who become ill or are away on a business trip, vacation, attending to personal needs, etc. Respite care is also provided at the same low rate for seniors who require temporary help following hospitalization. In addition, free temporary emergency/extended in-home attendant respite care is also provided to the frail elderly whose caregivers experience a sudden inability to provide care on weekdays after 5 p.m., weekends, holidays and in emergencies. Priority for this free service is given to caregivers who are providing assistance to frail elderly with annual incomes of $40,000 or less.
