NYC Parks offers a wide range of free public programming across its facilities and open spaces, including Shape Up NYC, fitness classes, sports leagues, seniors programming, and seasonal events. The current NYC Parks Events dataset lists events but does not systematically classify them by activity type or movement category, which limits its usefulness for equity analysis. A neighborhood with low programming coverage may have a true gap, or it may simply have a data structure limitation that obscures what is actually happening.
A structured dataset that classifies each free public program by activity type (fitness, aquatics, sports, dance, walking, seniors movement) and reports frequency and location would enable meaningful comparison of programming coverage across neighborhoods. This would support the Movement Opportunity Index, a neighborhood-scale framework scoring movement equity across NYC (movementopportunityindex.com), along with public health researchers, community advocates, and DPR's own equity goals.
The classification work required is modest. The underlying event data is already published. Adding structured activity tags to existing records would be sufficient to unlock substantial public-interest analysis.

I'd like to get a dataset on kidney transplant and waitlist times for a GIS project I'm currently working on. Data would be similar to your "DOHMH HIV/AIDS Report by Year and Demographic Category" dataset. Thank you.
Response
This data would be accessible through United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). Also, kidney waitlist data would be accessible from transplant centers as these facilities are determining waitlist status. This information sometimes doesn't make it back to the referring hospital, unless a hospital has its own transplant center. NYSDOH may also have this data, as I believe transplant centers are partly regulated by them. Another note: some New Yorkers may travel outside the city for a transplant consultation so inquiring outside NYC transplant centers could also be helpful in getting an accurate count.

Here is a list of all NYS transplant centers -- Transplantation in New York State

In the Community Profiles on their website (https://www.nyccfb.info/nyc-votes/community-profiles/), the Campaign Finance Board calculates and publishes measures of voter participation on the Community District level, including registration, turnout, and a participation score.

In the Historical Voter Turnout dataset (https://data.cityofnewyork.us/City-Government/Historical-Voter-Turnout/rixx-fc37/data_preview), turnout is only available by political boundaries and at the borough and citywide level.

Could the community district-aggregated data be added to NYC Open Data?
Response
Thank you for reaching out. We can confirm that this request will be handled by our agency, as we maintain and manage this dataset.

We appreciate your interest in our historical voter turnout data and are happy to expand the dataset to include community districts. We plan to incorporate and release this additional data in our scheduled update on December 31, 2026, as part of our annual data refresh for the 2026 Open Data Workbook.

Dataset: Recreation Center and Pool Attendance by Facility Frequency: Quarterly, facility level
Facility-level attendance data would distinguish neighborhoods where recreation facilities are present but underutilized from neighborhoods where they are actively serving residents. That distinction is essential for equity-based investment and programming decisions and is currently impossible to make from public data.
This supports the Movement Opportunity Index, a neighborhood-scale movement equity framework, along with researchers, community boards, and elected officials tracking equity in public services. DPR already collects this data operationally. Publishing it at the facility and quarterly level would require no new collection infrastructure.

Request
Dataset requested: DYCD Program Sites with Activity Type Classification and Enrollment.
Proposed frequency: Annual, at site level.
DYCD program site lists are partially available on NYC Open Data, but sites are not classified by activity type (athletic, arts, academic, mentorship, hybrid) and enrollment is not reported at the site level. Without this structure, it is impossible to evaluate how movement-oriented youth programming is distributed across neighborhoods at the scale needed for equity analysis. Two neighborhoods may host the same number of DYCD sites, but if one's sites are primarily arts-focused and the other's are primarily athletic, the implications for youth movement access are very different.
This dataset would support the Movement Opportunity Index, a neighborhood-scale framework scoring movement equity across NYC (movementopportunityindex.com). It would also support researchers at institutions studying youth development outcomes, and community-based organizations assessing local programming coverage.
DYCD already tracks activity type and enrollment internally as part of contract compliance and reporting. Publishing the classification with site-level enrollment would make existing operational data usable for public analysis.

Howdy!

I am conducting research analyzing the long-term operational impacts of health inspections on the NYC restaurant industry. I regularly utilize the "DOHMH New York City Restaurant Inspection Results" dataset (43nn-pn8j), which is an incredible resource.

However, I have noticed that this dataset only includes records for currently active restaurants. This limitation creates a survivorship bias for longitudinal analysis, as inspection histories for establishments that have closed over the last few years are no longer visible.

Is there a way to access a complete historical version of this dataset that includes all restaurant inspections, regardless of their current active or inactive status, covering the past 10 years? I know the New York State open data portal handles similar records by publishing both an "active" and a "historic/complete" dataset, however their dataset excludes New York City. I am hoping this might be as straightforward as adjusting a status filter in the backend database query before the data is published.

Having access to the complete historical data would be immensely helpful for accurately understanding the full lifecycle of food service operations in the city. Thank you for your time and for maintaining such a valuable public resource
Response
Thank you for your inquiry. The DOHMH New York City Restaurant Inspection Results only includes restaurant inspections for currently active status restaurants. For restaurant inspection results for inactive status restaurants, please submit a FOIL request to recordsaccess@health.nyc.gov.

Hi,
I'm developing a software application to help building owners and property managers stay compliant with Local Law 97. As part of my SaaS app, I want to auto-generate a Strategic Decarbonization Plan (following guidelines set forth by NYSERDA and USGBC) specific to a building from the DOB's Covered Building List (CBL) using the data that's available in the DOB NOW portal. Although Open Data has some of this data, what's on the DOB NOW portal is much more enriched. For example, the Facade Filings dataset and the Certificate of Occupancy fields in DOB NOW have more specific complete data than the same datasets in Open Data. I want to see if its possible to source this data so that I can understand the complete picture of a building (its envelope, its equipment, its full occupancy) thereby allowing my application to produce the best Decarbonization plan according to a specific building.

I would love to be in contact with a representative from the DOB to help guide me on sourcing this data, if its possible. The data is all accessible through the portal but its a pain to click through for each building in the CBL (50k) and manually copy the contents of the web page into my local Database.

Thanks

We are developing a free mobile and web application that provides New York City residents with unified real-time (or near-real-time) visibility into their water, electricity, and gas usage, along with intelligent alerts for anomalies such as leaks or unusual consumption patterns.
Dataset requested:
We would like to see a publicly available dataset on NYC Open Data that includes anonymized, aggregated, or building-level water consumption data from the Automated Meter Reading (AMR) or Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems. Ideal fields would include:
- Meter or building identifier (anonymized)
- Consumption readings (e.g., daily, weekly, or hourly intervals in gallons or cubic feet)
- Timestamp of readings
- Geographic information at the borough, neighborhood, or ZIP code level (aggregated to protect privacy)
- Optional: Property type (residential, multi-family, etc.) or meter size for context
Question we are trying to answer:
How can we empower individual tenants, homeowners, and landlords to detect and reduce unnecessary water waste in real time? Specifically, we want to build better anomaly detection models that identify leaks, over-irrigation, or inefficient usage patterns early, before they result in high bills or property damage.
How this dataset would help:
Access to more granular, timely water usage data would allow us to create accurate baselines for normal consumption patterns across different building types and neighborhoods. This would improve the app’s AI-driven alerts, helping residents and property managers catch issues faster and conserve water more effectively. Ultimately, this supports NYC’s broader goals of reducing water waste, lowering system strain, and promoting sustainability — while making conservation tools more accessible and actionable for everyday New Yorkers.
We are committed to using any data responsibly, in full compliance with privacy standards, and only to deliver public benefit through consumer-facing conservation tools.

Hi I am a journalist from a Japanese news agency Jiji Press and I am wondering if I could get archived NYC Dog Licensing Dataset in the past, such as dataset from 2015 or so. I would specifically like to know the historical trend of the number of Shiba Inus in NYC. I would appreciate if you could give me assistance. Thank you.
Response
Thank you for your request. Our public dog licensing dataset records each unique dog license that was active during the year, but not necessarily a unique record per dog, since a license that is renewed during the year results in a separate record of an active license period. For the specific type of data you are looking for, you may submit a FOIL request to recordsaccess@health.nyc.gov.

Currently, based on research and current understanding, there is nowhere in the world where data on if doctors discuss or refer clinical trials with patients is tracked. New and newer uses of current medications require the gold standard methodology of volunteer based interventional clinical trials (ie. GLP-1 and vaccine trials). How can health systems support local communities and doctors to provide new medicines if it still unknown if trial awareness is not provided for patients. Can NYC build out a way to track doctor informed clinical trial awareness for patients? This dataset might be the first in the world.

Request
I'm requesting that the following data points, which are already publicly visible through DOB systems, be made available via the NYC Open Data API:
1. DOB NOW TR1/TR8 Inspection Sign-Off Status (Identified / Certified)
The existing DOB NOW inspections dataset includes inspection records and their associated special and progress inspectors, but does not include whether the sign-off status is "Identified" or "Certified." This status is already publicly visible within individual DOB NOW applications and on the DOB NOW Public Portal. This field could be added to the DOB NOW: Build – Approved Permits dataset (ic3t-wcy2) or exposed as a new inspections dataset with application-level sign-off status.
2. Boiler Device Status (Active / Void)
The existing Boiler filings dataset (gnmg-rawy) and DOB NOW Safety: Boiler Compliance Inspection dataset (52dp-yji6) include boiler records but do not include the device status. The active or void status for boiler devices is currently only accessible through the Boiler Records section of the BIS Property Profile. A device_status field (Active/Void) should be added to the Boiler filings dataset (gnmg-rawy), similar to how the DOB NOW Elevator Safety Compliance dataset (e5aq-a4j2) exposes device records.
3. DOB Complaint Disposition Codes
The DOB Complaints Received dataset (eabe-havv) includes complaint records but does not include the disposition code or disposition description. Complaint disposition codes and descriptions are currently only visible through BIS complaint detail pages. Adding disposition_code and disposition_description fields to the existing DOB Complaints Received dataset (eabe-havv) would make this data programmatically accessible.
4. Stop Work Order and Vacate Order Records
Active Stop Work Orders and Vacate Orders are currently only visible through BIS. The DOB NOW Property Profile displays a banner when one is active but does not expose the underlying records. These records, including issuance and rescind dates, should be available as a dataset or as fields within an existing complaints dataset. These could be published as a standalone dataset (e.g., "DOB Stop Work Orders" and "DOB Vacate Orders") queryable by BIN, or added as supplemental fields to the DOB Complaints Received dataset (eabe-havv) with a complaint category filter for SWO/vacate types. The HPD Vacate Orders dataset (tb8q-a3ar) already serves as a model for how vacate data can be structured on Open Data.
All four data points are already publicly accessible through BIS or DOB NOW — this request is to make them available programmatically through the Open Data API.
Response
Concerning items one and two, your requests have been noted and will be reviewed for inclusion in a future release/update. For items three and four, the existing data set concerns complaints received, not complaints responded to, and as such would not include the disposition or resulting issuance (e.g. stop work orders or vacate orders issued, etc.).

Hi,
Love what you guys publish. I've been using your datasets for a couple years now :)

I'd like to request a data export or public dataset of all currently pending (Under Review) permit applications at the Landmarks Preservation Commission, including: docket number, application/received date, property address, borough, block, lot, BIN, applicant name, applicant company, owner name, owner company, work type, application type, and regulation type (or any combination you see fit). I note that LPC already publishes these identical fields for issued permits on NYC Open Data (dataset ID: dpm2-m9mq). I am requesting the same fields for pending/filed applications that aren't yet approved.

Thank you
Response
Thank you for your interest in our data! To further assist you with a data export, please fill out a record request. You may do so by scrolling down to "Request LPC Records" on this webpage: Forms - LPC.

Thank you so much, looking forward to helping you out.

I'm using the PDF reports provided (https://www.nyc.gov/assets/rentfreeze/downloads/pdf/scrie/tenant_status_docket/scrie_tenant_report_12_mos_by_docket_brooklyn.pdf) about SCRIE applications + approvals, but wanted to ask about sharing documentation and getting access to this data through the Open Data Portal, rather than pulling from PDFs.

Some initial questions I have that your documentation would probably help me understand:
How do we interpret the various application types?
What does it mean for a docket number to show up several times?
Can we use this data to understand how long applications took to approve?
There appear to be “benefits start” before “application approved” so I think there’s nuance in the process I don’t understand.

Thank you!
Response
1. Rent Freeze application types:
- Initial Application – Submitted when a tenant applies for SCRIE/DRIE for the first time.
- Renewal Application – Required every 1–2 years, depending on the tenant’s renewal cycle, to maintain program benefits.
- Benefit Transfer Application – Used when a tenant moves to a new rent‑regulated apartment and needs to transfer their existing Rent Freeze benefit.
- Benefit Takeover Application – Submitted when the current SCRIE/DRIE beneficiary is no longer the head of household, and an eligible household member seeks to assume the benefit.
- Redetermination Application – A benefit review process used to reassess a household’s eligibility and frozen rent amount when there is a significant change or discrepancy, such as a substantial income change or updated household information.

2. Docket number definition:
A docket number is the unique SCRIE/DRIE case identifier assigned by the NYC Department of Finance. Each docket represents a tenant’s Rent Freeze benefit record for the full duration of their participation in the program. Because each lease period or benefit adjustment is processed as a separate application under the same docket, the docket number will appear repeatedly in the report.

3. Application processing time:
The data provided cannot be used to determine how long applications took to be approved.

4. Benefit start date vs. application approval date:
In the Rent Freeze Program, the benefit start date may precede the application approval date. This occurs because tenants are permitted to apply retroactively, and DOF calculates benefit based on the effective date of eligibility rather than the date the application is approved/processed.

I suggest that NYC Open Data integrate public-on-demand commercial
plate information to enhance accountability and public safety. This is
a suggestion and not a business proposal. Currently, the lack of
immediate transparency regarding commercial vehicle ownership makes it
difficult for the public to file accurate reports concerning road rage
or safety violations. By providing a searchable database for
commercial plates, the city would empower citizens to identify
problematic companies and provide precise data to the appropriate
regulatory agencies. This initiative aligns with the city's
transparency goals and simplifies the reporting process for all
stakeholders. Enhanced access to this information acts as a deterrent
for reckless driving and ensures that companies are held responsible
for the conduct of their fleet on city streets.

Evidence of the need for such transparency is reflected in various
public reviews and discussions regarding commercial vehicle conduct in
metropolitan areas. While specific lawsuits against NYC Open Data
regarding this feature do not currently exist, the general sentiment
in urban planning circles and community boards often highlights the
difficulty of tracking commercial entities involved in traffic
incidents. Improved data access would streamline the work of agencies
like the Department of Transportation and the TLC. Please forward this
to the appropriate affiliated parties, management, and or their teams
or other necessary parties involved and what I send here is all that I
have to send with no further information as is. If I have more details
I will provide that but please process this as is. I prefer response
by email to this only since this may not be an emergency matter and
this is a suggestion not a proposal so please process this as a
suggestion only.
Response
NYC DOT does not deal with commercial plates, DMV issues commercial license plates.
The data can be found on the New York State Open Data Portal: https://data.ny.gov/Transportation/Department-of-Motor-Vehicles-Registration-Transact/s2dd-yksa/about_data

To Whom It May Concern,

We're requesting the dataset for all DOT-managed streetlights (and, if possible, traffic signals).

Ideally, the dataset would include geolocation, current status (functional, temporarily out of order, retired, etc.), bulb type (LED or HPS, etc.), design category (as defined in DOT's Street Design Manual, https://www.nycstreetdesign.info/lighting), installation, conversion, and replacement dates, brand and model names, CCT, wattage, etc.

We are a group of NYU researchers studying NYC's nighttime outdoor lighting, and it is crucial to have a dataset on streetlights, even one containing the most basic information. We are aware of the streetlight data filtered from 311 service requests, but it doesn't represent all streetlights.

For your reference, Streetlights - City of Tucson - Open Data (https://gisdata.tucsonaz.gov/datasets/cotgis::streetlights-city-of-tucson-open-data) is an example of streetlights open data from Tucson, AZ.

Thank you so much for your help!
Response
Thank you for your request, all street lights are not available for Open Data due to security concerns. If you would like to request street light information for a specific neighborhood, community board or zip code, please create a Freedom of Information Law request on NYC Open Records: https://a860-openrecords.nyc.gov/.

The NTAs and election districts are two distinct datasets. If you have access to GIS software (Esri, QGIS, CARTO, etc.) you should be able to run one of several spatial analysis tools to “merge” the datasets. See a few options in ArcGIS Pro below:
- Union – most likely what you are looking for
- Merge
- Intersect
- Spatial Join

We are seeking access to real-time parking meter transaction data from the DOT’s PARKNYC payment system, by meter number (7-digit identifier assigned to each parking meter).

Specifically, we need:
• The start time and duration of each paid parking session in real time
• A non-identifiable method to track if the same vehicle extends the parking session (e.g., hashed or anonymized vehicle identifier)

The objective is to estimate the number of vehicles currently parked at each meter and analyze curb occupancy patterns in real time. This will be compared against the estimated parking capacity of the corresponding street segment to generate aggregated occupancy insights.

No personally identifiable information, raw license plates, or sensitive data will be stored or published; all analysis will be on anonymized or aggregated data only.

Subject: Request for Data on NYC DOE Reports to the Statewide Central Register
I am writing to request data on the number of child abuse and maltreatment reports made by the New York City Department of Education (DOE) to the New York Statewide Central Register (SCR). Specifically, I am seeking annual data that reflects:
• The total number of reports made by NYC DOE personnel
• The breakdown of reports by school year (or calendar year, if more accessible)
• The types of allegations associated with these reports
• The proportion of reports that were screened in versus screened out
• The proportion of reports that were indicated versus unfounded
• Any available demographic information associated with these reports (e.g., age, borough, race/ethnicity), if permissible
• Any existing documentation describing DOE’s mandated reporter practices or reporting protocols
This information will support a graduate-level capstone project examining school-based reporting patterns, early intervention opportunities, and cross-system collaboration between DOE and the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS). The goal of the project is to better understand how reporting trends impact CPS caseloads and to identify opportunities for prevention-oriented, trauma-informed support for families.
If possible, please also include any publicly available datasets, dashboards, or prior analyses that relate to school-based reporting trends.
Thank you for your time and assistance. I am happy to clarify any part of this request.

I am looking for sales ratio data from the quality assurance group. It is the citywide time adjusted weighted mean ratio for owner-occupied residential property. I need the ratio for sales most relevant to taxes payable in 2025. Last year you provided me with a ratio of 100.10 that was for taxes payable in 2024. We produce the annual 50-State Property Tax Comparison Study, published by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, and this ratio is needed for the model to be accurate. Last year's published report is here: https://www.lincolninst.edu/publications/other/50-state-property-tax-comparison-study-2024/. I believe this is my third request, so I hope to hear back. I am requesting an aggregated, privacy-safe dataset reflecting worker related complaints and enforcement outcomes currently tracked by the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (and/or routed through 311), published at a monthly level. Access to this dataset would help me analyze trends over time and better understand how worker issues are formally reported and resolved in New York City. Publishing this information in aggregated form would also support broader research and policy discussions while maintaining individual worker privacy.

I have worked with the BOA (https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Environment/Shapefiles-of-BOA-and-Community-Brownfield-Plannin/wnhn-bgpv/about_data) shapefile, but I was wondering if NYC Open Data can also make accessible all historic BOAs. This will help Pratt students learning/using GIS as part of their planning education to be comprehensive in analyzing both active AND former BOAs. Thank you and please let me know if more information would be helpful!

Hello NYC Open Data Team,

I am writing to request the publication of a dataset that does not appear to be currently available on NYC Open Data.

REQUESTED DATASET:
Water level measurement data from NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)'s Remote Sewer Monitoring Program. This program, which began as a pilot in 2012, uses sensors installed inside manholes to measure wastewater/stormwater elevation levels in the city's sewer system.

DATA SPECIFICATIONS:
- Data Type: Water level (elevation) readings from remote sewer monitoring sensors
- Sensor location identifiers (coordinates, manhole IDs, or addresses)
- Measurement timestamps
- Time Period: October 1, 2020 – August 31, 2025
- Preferred Format: CSV, Excel, or any available format
- Scope: All sensor locations across the five boroughs

PURPOSE OF REQUEST:
Our research team is developing a multimodal benchmarking dataset for urban flood prediction. We are integrating multiple data sources:
- Flood depth data from FloodNet NYC
- Topographic/geographic data from NYC Open Data
- Precipitation data from IEM ASOS

The DEP sewer water level data would provide critical subsurface hydrological information essential for comprehensive flood prediction research. Our goal is to create a publicly available benchmarking dataset and publish it in Scientific Data (Nature Research) to advance urban flood prediction research and support climate resilience efforts in New York City.

Could you please advise whether this data can be made available through NYC Open Data, or direct this request to the appropriate DEP Open Data Coordinator?

Thank you for your time and assistance.
