DOH Registration information for the numbers and general locations (e.g.: zip code, census tract, Borough and Block number) of honeybee hives, apiaries, and beekeepers registered in NYC.

Generally, the trends and current state of honeybees in NYC:
- How the numbers of hives, apiaries, and beekeepers have changed over the years since legalization in 2010
- How the numbers of registered hives compare with estimates of the actual numbers.
- The distribution of hives across NYC.
- The density of hives in different areas across NYC.
- The proximity of hives to parks and other natural areas in NYC.
- The sustainability, limits, and opportunities of beekeeping in NYC.
Response
For information requests like this one, we encourage you to submit a FOIL request via Open Records: https://a860-openrecords.nyc.gov/

FOIL stands for the Freedom of Information Law. The New York State Freedom of Information Law requires government agencies to provide records to the public upon request. Government records affect the lives of each New Yorker, and providing easy access to the records makes government work better. The FOIL definition of records is very broad and includes information found in paper and electronic documents and audio and visual recordings. All records are available upon request, unless an exception in FOIL permits an agency to deny access to a record. Learn more about FOIL requests via this Frequently Asked Questions page.

From West 60th to West 110th St in Manhattan, what % of the population is Jewish and what % of that is 60 and older?

We need to have this data for a funding request -- the funder specifically supports nonprofits whose population is predominantly Jewish. Thans1
Response
You would need to be more specific in the geographic area you are interested in. While the stretch of streets you provided gives a location, you would also need to know how far west of Central Park West you want to include. The smallest area with reliable data would be at the Census Tract level.

The Department of City Planning (DCP) makes US Census Bureau and American Community Survey data available for NYC, however, we do not typically do analysis on behalf of people. We also have a helpful application, the Population FactFinder, that empowers the public to look up and explore this data.
Once in the Population FactFinder application, you should select geography type = Census Tract (on the top), manually select all the census tracts along Central Park West, then click View Data. A new window will open with tables. Select American Community Survey 2015-2019 in the Data Source drop down and you will be able to see the population for 65 and older (estimate 21,224 out of 97,671 total).
Unfortunately the census does not have data on religion. You may want to google certain Jewish organizations and see if they have that information.

If you have additional questions you can reach us at DCPopendata@planning.nyc.gov.

I'm looking for information on deaths by cause AND age (COVID-19, Homicide, etc). Ideally race would be included as well. It seems age-adjusted death data exists, so hopefully this can be done!

I am trying to understand the risks that different age groups face based on these death likelihoods. For instance, one possible conclusion of obtaining this data would be to compare the relative risk of homicide age across groups and show where certain populations should consider taking additional cautions. For instance, the elderly and COVID-19.

I would like the voter turnout rate by Neighborhood Tabulation Area. The Campaign Finance Board previously allowed the source data to be downloaded from their interactive maps (https://www.nyccfb.info/media/reports/voter-analysis-report-2020-2021/), but that doesn't appear to be possible anymore.

I am trying to update CIDI's Wellbeing Index, for which voter turnout rate is an indicator.
Response
I’m the Data Manager at the NYC Campaign Finance Board, in charge of voter turnout analysis for the agency, and received your Open Data request. After reviewing previous CIDI Wellbeing Index reports, I’m wondering why you’re using only one year of turnout. In our research, we know that the electorate is different in different election years based on the offices available to vote on. We’d recommend using our participation score, which is a voting behavior index that accounts for 10 years of voting history from 2008-2018. This gives a better overview of when voters turn out for elections and pinpoints chronic non-voters. You can find the participation score table here: https://data.cityofnewyork.us/City-Government/Voter-Analysis-2008-2018/psx2-aqx3. You’d want to weight the participation scores with the “weights” field when calculating the mean score grouped by the NTA.18 field. You can find more in-depth information about it’s construction in our 2019-2020 VAR here: https://www.nyccfb.info/media/reports/voter-analysis-report-2019-2020/

Next week I’ll be giving a talk on the construction of the participation score, alongside the community organization Hester Street who will explain how they use the participation score for voter outreach, as part of NYC’s Open Data Week. It’s a free online event and you can RSVP here: https://2022.open-data.nyc/event/using-open-election-participation-data-to-inform-voter-outreach-in-nyc/#rsvp-now. Please feel free to attend and bring any questions you have about the participation score there, or I’m happy to answer your questions over email.

Thanks,
*****

Seven major felony incidents for 2015-2021: https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Public-Safety/NYPD-7-Major-Felony-Incidents/hyij-8hr7

I only need the year, longitude, and latitude of each incident.

I don't need the type of felony, date, time, or any other identifying information.

I am updating CIDI's Well-being Index and the seven major felony incidents make up one of our indicators of neighborhood safety. In the past we have used the data aggregated to the precinct level: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nypd/stats/crime-statistics/historical.page, but our unit of analysis is Neighborhood Tabulation Area (NTA) and they don't translate well, so I would like to get the geo-located data to aggregate it to NTA directly and reduce error.

Thanks for you inquiry regarding the 7 major felonies. The seven majors can be pulled from the Complaint datasets:

Hi, I am looking for a comprehensive list of schools (public, private and charter) in Brooklyn. Does such a list exist? Thank you for your request with NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT).
The NYC DOT Bicycle Team does not archive Bicycle Routes by year as it is an ongoing program. The data is currently in the process of format changes, the next update is in spring.
The Open Data Portal does have archive data that may be of use to you. Under the "About" tab on the upper right side, there is an "Attachment" section, download the Archived_nyc_bike_routes_2019 data and use the instdate (install date) and moddate (modified date) columns to determine (optional: use select by attributes function in ArcMap) bike lanes prior to 2000 and 2010.

The Research and Data Department at the ***** is constantly working to improve public transport services by monitoring the impact of various policy measures on key indicators.
To hold ourselves to the highest standard, we are interested in gathering key indicators and descriptive information from industrialized cities and nations with advanced public transport systems.

• Supply of Public Transport (e.g., Bus Mileage, Bus Frequency)
• Public Transport Infrastructure (e.g., Railway Route Length, Bus Lane Route Length)
• Demand and Passengers (e.g., Average Trip Length, Public Transport Ridership)
• Level of Service Provided (e.g., Average Bus Speed, Public Transport Satisfaction)
• Funding and Expenses (e.g., Average Fare, Annual Subsidy)
• Policy (e.g., Parking Prices, Car Taxation)

These are just the categories of interest. If it is possible, I would appreciate if someone will contact me and I'll deliver a set of specific inquiries.

Thank you.

Please create a dataset of building energy efficiency scores which were mandated by Local Law 33 of 2018 and are currently only published in a data disclosure PDF that is out of date and not machine readable: https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/buildings/pdf/ll33_Data_Disclosure_2019-CBL.pdf

I would like to evaluate where the buildings with the lowest energy efficient scores are concentrated in the city
Response
Have you utilized the data set at the link below? This is Local Law 33 compliance.

In 2014, New York City introduced the New York City enhanced real property tax credit, a refundable credit to qualifying renters residing in New York City. Between 2014 and 2019, renters could file tax form NYC-208 to claim the credit on their income taxes. My research partners and I want to use data from these filings to calculate rental prices at the property level. We are requesting the following variables from Form NYC-2018, for years 2014 through 2019: 1) address address, city/village/post office, state and ZIP code associated with the tax credit filing; Line 14: Household gross income; Line 17: Gross rent paid; Line 18: Adjusted rent (in case line 17 includes utilities). DOF makes the Condo-Rent equivalence data available with addresses, so we hope to get address-level data too. Average rent by address would also work.

Housing court is where eviction cases are decided, and prior research suggests that there are economically meaningful pecuniary and non-pecuniary costs of being evicted for tenant households (Collinson et al., 2021). In response to this research, policy makers have introduced new programs to help tenants avoid eviction. Subsidized legal aid is a prominent example of such a program. In 2017, the City of New York was the first to promise accessible legal services to all tenants with income below a given income threshold and facing eviction proceedings (Office of Civil Justice, 2018). Proponents of this program argue that it helps prevent the costs to tenants of experiencing an eviction. Detractors argue that by making it more costly to evict a tenant, the program increases the effective cost of renting to low-income tenants, and that this cost may be passed on to tenants in the form of higher rent prices, higher deposits, decreased supply of rental housing units, or a lower likelihood of approval for rental applications from the lowest-income tenants. Recent research evaluates the effect of legal aid on the outcomes of eviction court cases (Gould Ellen et al., 2020). To gain a more complete picture of the effects of the policy, we will aim to evaluate the effect it has had on rent prices, rental housing supply, deposits, and landlords’ screening decisions.

Hi,
I am looking for data for Metro North and LIRR ridership. I would like to look at daily data if possible, if not, monthly data may be ok. I am looking for these three periods right now. Jan. 2019, April 2020 and Jan. 2022. Would that be possible? I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find this data.

We are looking into doing an article and exploring how things have changed in Midtown from pre-pandemic levels, to the low point in the pandemic and today.
Thanks again.

Along with another faculty member at the Department of ***** at *****, I am studying the changes in childcare capacity during the pandemic. We are wondering:
(1) if you have older vintages of the "DOHMH Childcare Center Inspections" dataset
(2) Could you give more detail about "Average Total Educational Workers"? Particularly, over what period is it averaging over?

We are studying the heterogeneous labor supply effect of day-care closures. This is to say, closures were different in different places and also different people were better able to insure against this. So we are hoping to pair this data with other local data like the American Community Survey to get a detailed portrait and quantify the effects.

NYC motor vehicle crash data from January 1, 2009 to June 30, 2012

The research question is what are the most common vehicle, roadway, land use characteristics, demographic and other factors associated with U.S. pedestrian fatalities? We would like to do a pilot study in New York city. The year of 2014 is a good break point as NYC officially adopted Vision Zero policy, so we want to access the crash data from January 1, 2009 to make comparison.

The information you are looking for is not maintained by NYC Open Data as it is based on a historical records management system, different from the current system. For information requests (documents, correspondence, etc.) we encourage you to submit a FOIL request via Open Records: https://a860-openrecords.nyc.gov/

I've been trying to match and merge Document ID from ACRIS Real Property Master with, NYC Citywide Annualized Calendar Sales Update dataset.
Response
The Annualized Calendar Sales dataset does not include Document Id and CRFN numbers.

The property address, borough, block and lot are in the ACRIS Real Property Legals dataset.

There is a 1 to many relationship between the ACRIS Real Property Master dataset and the ACRIS Real Property Legals dataset and the two can be linked by the Document ID and Good Through Date.

This (his/her higher education institute name, student score in qualification, qualification degree, student vocational courses completion details.) is not data we would have.
You seem to need information at the Tertiary level. That is not data we would have access to. Our students are Kindergarten through High School (ages 5 - 18).

I am looking at "Open Restaurant Applications" data provided at the following website:
https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Transportation/Open-Restaurant-Applications/pitm-atqc

I found that the provided data covers only from 2020-06-01. I wonder whether I can get longer periods like from 2018-01-01 to compare before and after the pandemic.

I and my research team are studying the entry dynamics in the restaurant industry. We compare the entry pattern before and after the Covid 19.
Response
Thank you for your request. Open Restaurants Program was created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to give restaurants an opportunity to operate on sidewalks and parking spaces in front of the restaurant while maintaining social distancing. The program began in June 2020 and due to it's success, it is now a permanent program. Before the Open Restaurants Program, restaurants that operated on sidewalks required Sidewalk Café licenses, which businesses must apply with the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), the data is available on Open Data Portal, see link below.

I am looking for a high resolution (30x30m) data set (most likely as a raster or GeoTIFF) of the albedo in NYC.

As part of my PhD study I am analyzing the disparate impact of summer heat on urban residents in NYC.
Response
At this time, we believe that your requested dataset is not maintained by a New York City agency, so we will have to reject this request to publish on the open data portal. However, 30m x 30m resolution data may be satellite imagery, and in that case, you should check the USGS Landsat web page at: https://landsat.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/where-to-get-data/. Hope that helps!

Hi, I am interested in obtaining 2020 (or most recent) data on the race by age breakdown of people in New York City. I've perused census data but they provide a breakdown of age by sex, not age by race. Alternatively, if you can point me to which census datasets to look at, I can try to make the calculations myself.

I'm interested in understanding NYC's age by race breakdowns better, especially for the purposes of comparing specific age by race rates with the general NYC population.
Response
The Department of City Planning (DCP) makes select US Census data for NYC available. Currently, you can download this table for 2020 US Census data for NYC. This includes info on total pop, race, households and age (only under 18). The US Census Bureau has not released all 2020 data yet, so this table does not include gender or combinations like race/age or gender/age.

Please note that this table includes info for several NYC geographies including Citywide, Borough, Community Districts, Neighborhood Tabulation Areas (NTAs) and census tracts. Please filter for a specific geography type (see 'GeoType' field) before summing data.

I sent a request about an hour ago but actually need two data sets. One is COVID 19 mortality by age/zip/gender/race and the other is vaccination rates with the same data. Thank you!

I am building a model to assess vaccine rollout strategies and assess a counterfactual of focusing first on those at highest risk.
