Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC)

Anonymized identification numbers for the driver and car in addition to the public TLC Yellow Taxi Trip Record Data for 2013.


How working hours/gross income of taxi drivers vary across days in a month.

Thanks for reaching out about the Taxi and Limousine Commission's open data. The TLC used to provide a hashed driver/vehicle identifier in taxi trip records to allow for driver and vehicle level analysis. Privacy advocates were able to re-identify these records and determine incomes and addresses of drivers and vehicle owners, so those fields have since been redacted in all datasets maintained by TLC or NYC Open Data. Copies of the data that contain the removed hashed identifiers exist but are not supported by TLC or the City of New York, and we make no claims to their accuracy.
City agencies in NYC have the discretion to determine what qualifies as personally identifying information under the Freedom of Information Law, so FOIL requests asking for vehicle identifiers are dismissed under the PII exemption.

We do not have any data relating to a Food Desert or Food Insecurity GIS map. We do not believe there are any Food Deserts or Food Insecure areas in NYC since we believe those terms tend to have relatively specific definitions that do not translate well to issues in NYC.

We do have data related to Supermarket Needs Index (SNI) from 2018. You can find more information here https://www1.nyc.gov/site/planning/zoning/districts-tools/fresh-food-stores.page but we do want to make sure this data isn’t ascribed a meaning that it doesn’t actually have.

Gantry State Plaza is a New York State park, and I do not know if they maintain or publish such data. Swimming beach attendance estimates can be found here. There are private companies which use anonymized cell phone data to estimate usage at points of interest in the city, however this data is not collected or maintained by NYC Parks.

I noticed that the Inspections data doesn't have as much information as I'd need for my analysis. Is it possible to get geographic information (CT, CD, Lat, Long) and DCA license number for the inspections dataset? Also, the CT variable is hard to use without a decimal place present. What predictors are associated with the locations of tobacco and e-cigarette retail dealers

You can filter the “Legally Operating Businesses” (https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Business/Legally-Operating-Businesses/w7w3-xahh) dataset to identify businesses that had an active license at any given time by filtering on,
• Industry (if you are interested in a particular industry)
• License Expiration Date (is greater than or equal to the start date of the time period they are interested in), and
• License Creation Date (is less than or equal to the end date of the time period they are interested in).

For example, to find active tow truck companies between 2015 and 2016, your filters would be:
• Industry = “Tow Truck Company”
• License Expiration Date >= January 1, 2015
• License Creation Date <= December 31, 2016

To further refine your dataset, you can join these licenses to the “License Revocations, Suspensions, Surrenders and Reinstatements” (https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Business/License-Revocations-Suspensions-Surrenders-and-Rei/rpeq-j89e) dataset to identify acute periods of licenses being inactive.

Also, we have updated the “Inspections” (https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Business/Inspections/jzhd-m6uv) open dataset to include all inspections dating back to January 2014. The dataset should be updated on the next scheduled refresh on December 11th. Thank you,

Is there anyway you could send me the 'cartodb-query'. I haven't found a resource that has A1 and NB in such a digestable format. I'm looking to convert it back into html to query the Job applications daily or weekly. I am looking for the 'economic benefits' of all NYC Street Tree points as seen on the NYC Street Tree Map (https://tree-map.nycgovparks.org/). Each registered tree point has an 'Economic Benefit' value on the NYC Street Tree Interactive Map, however these values aren't recorded on the the NYC Street Tree Map database that exists on NYC Open Data Portal.


I want to analyze the economic benefits tree canopies have over a given area. I want to calculate tree benefit loss due to storms.

Thank you for contacting NYC Parks regarding the economic benefits information on the Tree Map. This information is captured in the Eco-Benefits dataset on the Open Data Portal, however it appears the json file is too large for available free conversion programs. We plan to review the Tree Map datasets, and change the format if necessary, in 2021.
