Hello,

My name is *****, and I am a graduate student currently completing my master’s degree. As part of my master’s report, I am conducting an academic research project focused on analyzing EMS response times using machine learning models.

I am writing to ask whether it would be possible to receive access to EMS response data for research purposes. The data would be used solely for academic analysis, with the goal of identifying patterns and factors that influence response times and potentially contribute to improved emergency services.

I came across the EMS Incident Dispatch Data and I was wondering if it would be possible to get access to a slightly smaller database since this file is too large. Moreover, If you have a data that includes locations of incidents as well that would be greatly helpful.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I appreciate any assistance or guidance you may be able to offer.

Best regards,
*****

I am interested in a list of code enforcement on vacant properties
Response
To look up code enforcement on vacant buildings, you can review our Housing Maintenance Code Violations dataset on NYC Open Data. Filter the dataset to records where the 'order number' is either '766' or '767'. Both codes apply to vacant buildings.

Please note that violations may exist on buildings which are no longer if the owner has not notified HPD about re-occupancy. Also, HPD code enforcement does not inspect vacant lots or handle any enforcement on those properties.

I would like to know how many small buildings have Rent Stabilized tenants - in these categories: 1. under 4 stories, 2. fewer than 5-6 units, 3. single owner . From the DOB one group that would be a start is: how many RS registered buildings do not file the Income and Expense Report RPIE, as they have fewer than 11 units, by borough, but I am mainly interested in Manhattan.
Response
This is not an inquiry suitable for the NYC Dept. of Buildings. While you may find some information through HPD, it is recommended that you contact the New York State Office of Rent Administration (of the state's Division of Housing and Community Renewal (HCR)).

I'd like to know exactly how much pesticides and/or herbicides were purchased by the NYC Parks Department in 2023, 2024 and 2025, specifically Roundup. The amount of glyphosate containing products applied in 2024 was 20.70 gallons and the amount of the Roundup brand alone applied is reported to be 12.93 gallons in 2024 but there is no publicly available record of how much of it was purchased or how much is currently in their inventory. Please help me determine the exact amounts that were procured. Thank you
Response
Thank you so much for reaching out, and our apologies for the delay! This dataset is not considered Parks Open Data because we do not own or manage the purchasing information (that's with the Comptroller's Office and OMB). If you'd like more information about what data Parks has related to this, you can submit a FOIL request. Hi there,

My team is researching the impact of SNAP benefits in Brooklyn and were looking for some demographic information.

I was wondering if you could help me reach out to DSS/HRA for statistical and demographic information regarding SNAP recipients in the borough. I can't find any public-facing information regarding the age, ethnic background, household size, immigration status, or veteran status of people receiving SNAP in Brooklyn. I need that information in order to assess how SNAP changes to the work requirements and eligibility groups will affect those in the borough.

I'm particularly looking for data broken down by age groups, especially those ages 55-64 who are newly subject to ABAWD requirements, as well as immigration status categories, veteran status, and household composition (as in, which households have children/dependents under and above the age of 14) if possible.

Thank you,
*****

Hello NYC Open Data Team,

I am very interested in several of the juvenile justice datasets available on your platform. I am writing to kindly request access to the same datasets for additional years, specifically 2014–2024, for the following resources:
- Detention and placement demographic reports
- Detention admissions by community district

I am a senior at *****, and this data is essential for my final research project. My project analyzes the impact of New York’s Raise the Age law on 16- and 17-year-olds by examining arrest and detention trends by borough and race from 2013–2024. I understand this data may not be available for 2013. The goal of my work is to determine whether claims of increased youth crime following the law’s implementation are supported by evidence, and to assess the potential impact of a proposed rollback.
The datasets currently available on Open Data are extremely helpful, but they cover limited years. To conduct a valid pre-post policy analysis and to assess changes over time, I would greatly appreciate access to the same datasets from 2014 through 2024. Access to these years would significantly strengthen my research and contribute meaningful evidence to the ongoing public discussion around Raise the Age.
In its simplest form, I am seeking:
 # of arrests by borough and by age. For both adults and youth from 2014-2024.
If I had access to this full historical dataset, my goal would be to provide grounded statistical evidence demonstrating why a rollback may be harmful for society, and to help shift the policy conversation toward strengthening implementation strategies, rather than sending more youth to criminal court.

If you are able to release these additional years—or if you can direct me to an alternative source where this historical data is stored—I would be immensely grateful.
Thank you very much for your time, assistance, and public service.
Warm regards,
*****

I am looking for sales ratio data from the quality assurance group. It is the citywide time adjusted weighted mean ratio for owner-occupied residential property. I need the ratio for sales most relevant to taxes payable in 2025. Last year you provided me with a ratio of 100.10 that was for taxes payable in 2024. We produce the annual 50-State Property Tax Comparison Study, published by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, and this ratio is needed for the model to be accurate. Last year's published report is here: https://www.lincolninst.edu/publications/other/50-state-property-tax-comparison-study-2024/. Thank You!!!

As part of my research on arts and cultural infrastructure in New York City, I have been using Live XYZ to identify locations across the city for follow-up analysis. I understand that the dataset underlying the Live XYZ is based on a partnership between Live XYZ and SBS.

My question: is it possible for researchers to gain access to the underlying database that powers this map? I am specifically interested in mapping arts/culture locations, and your online map already uses category relevant for this purpose ('Arts & Culture' and likely 'Entertainment' but also what seem to be subcategories such as 'Art Gallery' or 'Performance Venue'). Concerning exact data needs, I am looking for location data + photography of the location. I have seen a few academic papers that have used Live XYZ data, so I'm hoping that there is a way to gain access to the data for research purposes.

Dear NYC Open Data and Department of Education Team,

I hope this message finds you well.
I am conducting a research project on the implementation timeline of the New York City Community Schools Initiative. While I have found the most recent dataset available on NYC Open Data (2021–2022 Community Schools List:
https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Education/2021-2022-Community-Schools-List/su38-ur5m
), I have not been able to locate earlier versions of the dataset for the years since the program’s inception in 2014.

Would it be possible to obtain the Community Schools Lists (or equivalent datasets) for each school year from 2014–2015 through the most recent available year? My goal is to identify the year in which each school joined the Community Schools program.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. Please let me know if there is a formal process (e.g., FOIL request or data archive access) I should follow to retrieve these files.

Could you please make public the data "Street Closures due to construction activities by Block" for previous years (as far back as possible)? The current set includes data only for the year 2025. Thank you for your time and help.
Response
Thank you for your request. The Street Closure due to Construction Activities by Block and Intersection was released with historical data.
Please note: New York City street closure locations are stipulated in the NYC DOT Street Construction Permits. This is subject to a full closure, restricting through traffic for the purpose of conducting construction related activity on a City street. Closure Permits are issued for a period of time during which the street may be closed to through traffic for only a portion of the time, and open at other times.

Hi there -

I am a graduate student interested in locating data on Block Associations, by community board.

I see this info listed on some, but not all individual Community Board websites.

I'm wondering if there is an aggregated list of active or historic block associations anywhere?

Thanks,
Response
Sorry for the delay. Thank you for reaching out.
CAU maintains basic Community Board information, such as meeting times, and District Manager information. Each Community Board is responsible for managing and updating its own website content.
We recommend contacting the individual Community Boards directly.
Best regards

Hello,

I am a student in *****, and I am currently conducting academic research on the economic impact of tourism on the hotel industry in New York City for my capstone *****. My study focuses on analyzing the long-term relationship between tourism activity and the performance of the hospitality sector.

To support my analysis, I would like to kindly request access to historical data for New York City covering at least the past 30 years on the following indicators:

1.Total number of visitors each month or each year
2.Total overnight visits each month or each year
3.Total travel spending each month or each year

If complete records are not available, any annual reports or references to relevant databases would still be extremely valuable.

I would be grateful if you could share this information directly or direct me to the appropriate resources or contacts. Please also let me know if there are any specific procedures, permissions, or costs associated with obtaining these datasets.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. Your support will make an important contribution to my research and to a better understanding of tourism’s role in New York City’s economy.

Best regards,
*****

I am writing to respectfully request the creation and publication of a new dataset on the NYC Open Data portal for DOB NOW: Build – Crane Notices.
Currently, several DOB NOW datasets (e.g., Job Application Filings, Approved Permits, Elevator Permit Applications) are available on NYC Open Data and have proven invaluable for public transparency, research, and operational planning. However, the Crane Notice (CN) filings—which contain critical information regarding crane operations, schedules, and safety-related activities—are not presently available as an open dataset.
Publishing this dataset would:
- Enhance transparency and public safety by making crane operation notices accessible to residents, businesses, and community organizations.
- Support research and analysis for urban planning, construction oversight, and risk assessment.
- Provide operational value to adjacent city agencies, contractors, and utilities that benefit from advance notice of crane activities.
Specifically, we request that the dataset include core information fields from DOB NOW filings such as:
- Notice number and filing date
- Device type and description
- Operation schedule (dates/times)
- Location (borough, block/lot, or street address)
- Status and approval details
We also recommend making this dataset accessible via the Socrata Open Data API (SODA), consistent with other DOB NOW datasets, to allow for programmatic access, filtering, and integration.
Thank you for your continued commitment to transparency and innovation. Making the Crane Notice data available will be a significant step in improving public awareness and supporting safe construction practices in New York City.

Sincerely,
*****

I am looking for a series of datasets depicting the SHSAT offers by Sending Middle School across the past few academic years. Currently it looks like the most recent dataset available on OpenData is from the 2020-2021 academic year and so I am looking to fill in the gaps between then and the most recent admissions cycle.

I am a current PhD student in ***** looking to use this dataset as the subject for course projects this semester and potentially for the purposes of my dissertation. I'm curious about whether or not there have been any changes in the specialized high school feeder middle schools since the expansion of the Discovery Program, and generally, what direction those changes have been moving in.

Thank you!

Hi,
I am researching the impact of fats, oils, and grease (commonly referred to as “fatbergs”) on New York’s sewer and drainage systems. For this reason, I am requesting access to data on reported drain and pipe blockages where fat, grease, or related substances were identified as the cause.

Specifically, I am seeking:
- Incident-level data covering the past five years (2020–2025)
- Details such as date, location (street or area-level), and recorded cause (e.g., grease/fat, wipes, roots, other)
- Any summary statistics or reports on trends over this period

This timeframe will allow us to examine trends before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting how household and commercial practices may have shifted.

The findings will be used to provide the public with insights into the prevalence of grease-related blockages and how improved practices can help protect New York’s infrastructure.

Please let me know if this information is available via an open-data portal or whether a formal public records request is required. I can adjust formatting or scope to match what you can provide.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

NYPD Calls for service (year to date) NYC Open Data
Would it be possible to share real arriving time records of calls. At the moment this time is the same as dispatch time and response time is zero. Also, dispatch time and arriving time are rounded to mm and we would need them in HH:MM:SS as the call arriving time. It would be used for academic purposes. Thank you very much. We are trying to build simulation models and we need probability characterizations of parameters. It is also not clear the call priority and it seems that the criteria for call priority is not from a national standard. Also, most of the calls have the same call priority. Also it would be very useful to have a patrol number (coded not real) serving the call, and how many police patrols are assigned on average to a given precinct such as 22 by shift and what hours are served by each shift. We are trying to find ideal number of patrols to be allocated in a given precinct, day, or shift to meet performance standards of response time. Thank you very much.

All available data from the 2023 and 2025 elections for Community and Citywide Education Councils, including but not limited to:

- Vote counts and voter counts (both, as each voter may cast multiple votes) by district
- Vote counts and voter counts (both, as each voter may cast multiple votes) by school
- Vote and voter counts broken down by time frame submitted - i.e. before and after elections were paused city-wide and again in district 1
- Expenditures on outreach efforts broken down by district and method
- Numbers of applications, candidates who withdrew, and candidates who were seated and then resigned
- Official complaints received, which candidate(s) they pertain to and what activities were reported
- Determination of each complaint, clearly stating the steps taken as well as the rules and facts relied on to make the determination, and what action if any was taken in response to substantiated complaints
- Names of the individual employee(s) on the elections team involved in adjudicating each complaint

This request is in line with the Comptroller's recommendations following the 2023 elections. As with other elections, detailed data about voter turnout and outreach efforts can be essential for understanding whose voices might be over- or under-represented in results, for the public to assess whether elections were conducted properly according to the law, and for informing future efforts. Data about complaints is necessary for the public to assess whether bias might be a factor in how complaints are adjudicated, a concern that has been raised by many parent leaders and by the Comptroller.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) does not publish this dataset. The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) chapter in the Mayor’s Management Report (MMR) contains an indicator for the percentage of families living in shelter who received biopsychosocial screenings from mental health clinicians. This data can be found online in the Dynamic Mayor’s Management Report (DMMR) at the following link under Goal 1a: https://dmmr.nyc.gov/city-services/health-and-human-services/department-of-homeless-services.

My client was injured in a motor vehicle accident and passed away. She was employed by DOHMH. How do I obtain her employment records, and who do I contact to fill out an Employer's Wage Verification Form for the insurance company?

Fairness in Apartment Rental Expenses (FARE) Act complaints. I would like to use the dataset to learn more about the effect of the policy.
Response
Users can filter the DCWP Consumer Complaints dataset on NYC Open Data for [Business Category] = ‘Landlord or Real Estate Agent’ and separately for [Complaint Code] = ‘Broker Fee Charged’ or ‘Broker Fee Listed’. By combining these two lists (and de-duplicating) you can retrieve FARE Act complaints.

Note that the dataset has an approximately 60-day lag time from the date a complaint is resolved so it may not return any results until August or September.
