Good morning,

My name is ***, and I work within the ***. I am currently working on a project that requires NYC property valuation data for tax year 2022. The Property Valuation and Assessment Data Tax Classes 1,2,3,4 dataset does not appear to go back to 2022. If possible, could you provide me with the Property Valuation and Assessment data for all tax classes for 2022? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

***

It is inexcusable that the healthcare staff failed to order an X-ray despite the patient’s persistent and chronic knee pain, a fundamental step in diagnosing any underlying issues. This negligence not only demonstrates a lack of thoroughness but also a disregard for the patient’s well-being, which could have led to more severe complications down the line. By failing to properly assess the situation with appropriate diagnostic tools, the healthcare staff failed in their duty of care, compromising the patient’s health and leaving them to suffer unnecessarily. Such incompetence is not just a breach of medical responsibility but a failure of the very trust that patients place in their healthcare providers.

I would love to see a restaurant permit application dataset that specifically contains information about the H25 Food Service Establishment Supplemental Form (sections 1-2 and 4-7). I would use this dataset to analyze the characteristics and diversity of restaurants in the city as well as potentially establish a correlation between the restaurants and the health inspection grades and customer reviews they receive. Thanks!
Response
Thank you for your inquiry. Some of the information already exists in the DOHMH New York City Restaurant Inspection Results dataset currently posted, such as cuisine. Inclusion of other variables is being considered in subsequent dataset updates.

I'd like to see data about the orange compost bins. I'd like to understand:
How much compost is the city processing?
Is this more or less than before they were installed and compost was only collected via the brown curbside bins and the greenmarkets?
Which bins are used the most/least?
Where does the compost go (this may be outside of the scope of the data)?

Thank you!
Response
The material placed in New York City’s network of 400 popular Smart Composting Bins is collected by the same trucks that pick up compostable material from schools; as such, it is not possible to analyze the Smart Composting Bin data on its own, however the combined data is available in the City’s Open Data portal.

We know that New York City’s wraparound, comprehensive composting programs are working. Between the Smart Composting Bins, school composting programs, and the first-ever citywide curbside composting program, New York City diverted 65% more compostable material from landfill in Fiscal Year 2024 than had been done two years earlier before these programs began.

That information is not part of an exhaustive data set released by the Dept. of Buildings, nor would something like email addresses be approved for release on the portal because of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) concerns.

I'm looking for a data set of all the residential buildings in New York City, their basic demographic information, and the building management agency / managing agent they use. I know how to find this information for an individual building via this portal: https://hpdonline.nyc.gov/hpdonline/ but that requires I know the address of the building, and only allows me to get one at a time. Would love to be able to get access to the full data set.
Response
Thank you for your inquiry. There are a couple of datasets that you can look into to get the information you are looking for:
- Buildings Subject to HPD Jurisdiction: This dataset includes residential buildings subjected to HPD's jurisdiction based on certain criteria
- Primary Land Use Tax Lot Output (PLUTO): Maintained by the Department of City Planning, the data file contains extensive land use and
- geographic data at the tax lot level
- Multiple Dwelling Registrations & Registration Contacts: These two datasets include information on property registration and the ownership

HPD does not publish demographic information on NYC Open Data.

Please feel free to reach out to us at opendata@hpd.nyc.gov if you have additional questions.

Best,

Hello,

My name is *** and I am a former D1 tennis player living in NYC. 🎾

I’m working on a project to improve tennis court access in NYC by helping players more easily find available courts. I know NYC Parks manages public court reservations, and I was wondering if there’s an API or any structured data available that shows real-time or scheduled court availability.

If not, I’d love to understand how this data is managed and if there’s a way to work together to make court availability more accessible to players.

Would you be open to a quick chat? Looking forward to your thoughts.
Response
Our sincere apologies for this very delayed response to your inquiry. Unfortunately, currently, outside of the Online Tennis Court Reservations page, we don’t have the bandwidth to make available the real time or scheduled court availability at the handful of tennis locations that offer online advanced court reservations. Please feel free to share the project you’re working on though!

I am looking for historical data on waterbody advisories alerted by date by the DEP. Currently waterbody advisories are just provided on their website as they are happening, there is no way to access historical data. I made a FOIL request and the response was *****. This should just be accessible data, especially for those of us working with highly polluted waterways that experience CSO events. I do water quality testing for a number of projects I am involved in and it would be valuable to add to my dataset and our historic data if a waterbody advisory was in effect on the date we measured water qualities. This data would be valuable to students and educators learning about these waterbodies with educators such as myself. Please make the historical data of issued water body advisories by location and date available on the NYC Open data.

My laboratory studies the effect of PM2.5 and its chemical constituents on lung cell fate. Specifically, we are investigating whether the particles contained in PM2.5, or chemicals enriched in PM2.5 impact the proliferation of human cells, and cause changes in their DNA (genotoxic). The chemicals we are interested in are PAH's, namely, fluorene, phenanthrene and pyrene since our pilot data indicate that they negatively impact the proliferation and health of lung cells.
I would like to know if NYC is acquiring data on concentrations of these specific pollutants. We are interested in mapping cumulative exposure of these chemical with the incidence of lung disease (asthma, COPD, cancer), and disease progression following diagnosis.
Thank-you.
*****
Response
The NYCCAS Air Pollution Rasters | NYC Open Data can be useful for the pm2.5 data, however we don't collect data on the other chemicals. The EPA does collect data on the other chemicals through their Hazardous Air Pollutants monitoring network - National Air Toxics Trends Stations | Ambient Monitoring Technology Information Center | US EPA Stations.

Our study focuses on understanding the factors that might influence patient portal adoption and usage among diverse demographic groups in New York City, particularly within Hispanic, Black, and Asian communities. Specifically, we aim to answer the following questions: What are the demographic, socioeconomic, and systemic barriers affecting patient portal adoption, and what interventions can improve engagement among underserved populations?

To support our research, we seek access to de-identified patient portal usage data from DOHMH. The key variables of interest include patient demographics such as age, gender, race, and ethnicity, as well as portal engagement metrics like registration status, login frequency, frequency of use, and feature utilization. Socioeconomic factors, including digital literacy indicators and language preference, will also be examined to better understand disparities in usage. This data will be used exclusively for an academic project *** and will not be included in any published research or external dissemination.

Dear NYC OTI Team, I hope this message finds you well. I would like to begin by thanking you, the Open Data Team, and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) for your continued efforts in providing accessible data through the Open Data Policy. Your work greatly benefits professionals like myself and helps improve the city's systems and services for all residents. I’ve recently developed a strong interest in the data related to affordable housing programs across New York City, specifically the NYC Housing Connect Lottery website. It is my understanding that HPD has provided the following datasets related to affordable housing on the Open Data Portal: - 421-a(16) Affordable New York Housing Program Completion Extension - Letters of Intent - Affordable Housing Production by Building - Affordable Housing Production by Project While these datasets provide helpful information, I am seeking a more detailed dataset that includes all affordable housing opportunities posted on the NYC Housing Connect Lottery website since July 2020. Specifically, I am interested in obtaining data related to: - Property details (name, address, borough, etc.) - Lottery requirements (income limits, eligibility, etc.) - Direct links to individual lottery pages - Lottery dates and application windows - Household size - Eligible income range - Details about amenities, available units, requirements charts, location maps, and photos Since expired lotteries are no longer visible on the website, this dataset would be invaluable for tracking both past and current listings. I would appreciate it if you could provide this data in any format that works best for your team, such as Excel or CSV. Additionally, I would like to inquire if there is an API available for the publicly accessible future lottery data on the NYC Housing Connect Lottery website. I am interested in syncing future lottery data points (e.g., property details, eligibility requirements, application windows, etc.) to keep track of new opportunities as they are posted. Please note, I am only requesting access to the publicly available data through an API, not any backend or private information. Having access to this API would not only streamline my process, but it would also allow me—and others—to avoid repeatedly checking the Open Data website or reaching out for the most up-to-date information when new opportunities are posted. This would make it much easier to stay informed and track new lotteries efficiently. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and hope to continue working together to improve the accessibility of housing data for New Yorkers. Best regards, ****
Response
Thank you for your inquiry and for your kind words.

As indicated in the NYC Open Data Plan: Future Releases, the Housing Connect datasets are part of future releases, and we have been working on creating and carefully reviewing the datasets. A lot of the fields you mention in your inquiry are set to be included in the datasets. We are hoping to publish the first two datasets of the Housing Connect series in the next couple of months.

We do not currently offer API on the Housing Connect website. We hope that you can retrieve the data easily via API on NYC Open Data once we publish the datasets.

If you have any additional questions, please reach out to us directly at OpenData@hpd.nyc.gov.

Best,
HPD Open Data Team

I am reaching out to inquire about the possibility to get anonymized taxi and FHV license ID, which is not part of the public data available on the TLC website (https://www.nyc.gov/site/tlc/about/tlc-trip-record-data.page).
This anonymized identifier is necessary for my research that requires identifying all trips conducted by the same TLC license (masked or anonymized for confidentiality purposes). Please let me know if such information is available, possibly via an NDA arrangement. Many thanks!
Response
We do share data with researchers from time to time. Unfortunately, at the moment, we are at capacity in terms of NDA and data sharing efforts and therefore will not be able to help. You are welcome to reach back to us in a few months if you are still interested. Thanks for your understanding.

Citywide Payroll Data: I see that the data is publicly open and downloadable, which is great, but I was wondering if there is data available prior to 2014. I am a PhD student at *****, and trying to do a research using NYC data on public employees and their labor decisions such as turnover. I need data prior to 2014, such as from 2010 or earlier. Would this be possible? Thank you.
Response
FISA-OPA is not able to recreate the entire Citywide Payroll data set going back prior to 2014. Any attempt to recreate the entire data set would lead to data integrity issues and the potential compromise of sensitive information, such as undercover officer information. OPA has no way of properly identifying what information was or should have been subject to redactions during previous years.

The Department of City Planning (DCP) archives all of its published open data on the archive section of BYTES OF THE BIG APPLE here: https://www.nyc.gov/site/planning/data-maps/open-data/bytes-archive.page. Search for City Council and you will see all versions going back to 2006. Note, we typically release district boundaries quarterly (4x/year), these quarterly release contain minor updates to boundaries that align with the street grid. Major redistricting typically take place in the second or third year following a decennial census (i.e., 2012, 2013, 2022, 2023, etc.).

I would be interested to see on the DOB NOW certificates of Occupancy dataset; and DOB certificates of Occupancy dataset - but I would admit this older dataset would be a lot harder to get updated; to include the Construction Classification and building subject to building code. I am fascinated by the building construction of new buildings and recently built in New York and looking to understand what the spread of those buildings are. I would also love to see the Building Occupancy Group classification so I could filter down based on mercantile vs office vs habitational vs industrial (But I know that information is available elsewhere). Fascinated by what the distribution of types of construction buildings are in the city and how it could affect other metrics like fires, building safety, and areas of the city with building developments.
Response
We understand that you are looking for building classification to be added to the certificate of occupancy data on the portal. Is that correct? If so, we can note this for review as a possible addition to the existing data.

I believe the dataset is managed by 311, as it is provided by EHDP under the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Bureau of Environmental Surveillance and Policy.
Currently, pollution data is available for every borough on a yearly basis. However, I would like to access this data at a higher frequency—preferably hourly, daily, or monthly—so that I can compare it with asthma-related emergency department visits (AEDV) at the same frequency. Therefore i also would like that dataset to be updated with a higher frequency.
I intend to use this data to develop a machine learning model for a university project at *****. The model aims to predict estimated AEDV counts based on pollution levels.
Response
Please follow this link for real time air pollution data Real-Time Air Quality in NYC . The Asthma data on the EH Portal comes from the New York City Community Health Survey (CHS). Hello,

I would like to request a dataset containing annual population information by community district or precinct, if possible. I believe this information will be important for people conducting analyses that require a "per capita" adjustment annually. Currently, there is only population by community district per decade.

Thank you!
Response
The Department of City Planning (DCP) publishes NYC population data based on the Census Bureau data. They collect the decennial census counts and then release American Community Survey (ACS) estimates every year based on the survey.

For annual population data:
- You can download annual ACS data from US Census Bureau here.
- Once ACS data is released, we release NYC ACS tables here
- 2024 not available yet
- 2023 at NTA, CDTA and City Council districts not available yet
- for earlier versions see the Archive tab at the bottom of the page

For different geography levels. The US Census Bureau collect data at various geography levels including Census Block and Census Tract. To accurately aggregate data to higher geography levels, those geographies must use census blocks or tracts as building block. DCP has created tabulation areas at the neighborhood and community district level for this reason. You can download the Neighborhood Tabulation Areas (NTA) or Community District Tabulation Areas (CDTA) boundaries here.
- 2020 NTA (boundaries only)
- 2020 CDTA (boundaries only)
- 2020 Census Tracts to 2020 NTAs and CDTAs Equivalency Table

Police Precincts is a geography that does not align to Census Tracts so that is not a dataset that is published. You can reach out to NYPD to see if they have something they produce and publish.

You may also be interested in our Population Fact Finder (PFF) app that consolidates US Census and ACS data at many geography levels over many time periods.

Hello,

I am very interested in a dataset that has the fill levels (potentially this would need to be weight of collected trash) of smart bins that the city has. It would be great if the fill level was reported throughout the day (maybe hourly if possible). This would give great insights into the evolution of this data throughout the day and when coupled with other data, could be used to better understand the traffic patterns and could give actionable insights on how we can keep the city cleaner.

Thanks!

A handul of former geospatial datasets appear to be missing from the open data website. Until recently, I could download subway stations, subway entrances and subway transfer points. The only related dataset available is subway lines. I believe that these were former DOITT (now OTI) datasets.
Furthermore, some of the NYC boundary datasets appear to be missing, such as borough boundaries without water. While these can be still downloaded directly from DCP, it would be great to have them in the core data site.
Additionally, can you please clean up keywords for datasets so that ones that are maps or geospatial in nature are tagged consistently as such? This includes building footprints, the WALK NYC maps and a few others. Some also contain legacy DOITT tags.
Many thanks
Response
Updated Response (12 March 2025):
The pages for Police Precincts, Borough Boundaries & Borough Boundaries (water areas included) have been restored on the NYC Open Data portal.
---
Original Response:
These datasets were deleted because the vendor for the NYC Open Data platform is removing older datasets (and all of their associated assets) built on the outdated "Grid View." You can read more about this update here: http://support.socrata.com/hc/en-us/articles/26738697457303-Grid-View-Removal. We are working on restoring the recently deleted datasets. We apologize for any inconvenience.

As for the tags/keywords, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will work on updating those across our platform.

Hello - I have a CSV file with BBL codes for a few thousand properties in NYC and I'm trying to obtain the addresses and square footages of these properties. Would it be possible to obtain this information? Thank you!
Response
There are several options to obtain address and square footages with a list of BBLs.
First, you could download PLUTO or MapPLUTO and join your csv to PLUTO. PLUTO is a tax lot based dataset with property, building, and other geographic information. You can join your csv to either PLUTO or MapPLUTO by joining the BBL field. You can then select the Address and Lot Area (LotArea) fields for the info you are looking for. For more information about the fields or attributes included in PLUTO please see the PLUTO Data Dictionary.
1. PLUTO is a CSV as well. If you do not have GIS software you can download this CSV and join them together (How to join tables in excel)
2. MapPLUTO is available as a shapefile or file geodatabase. If you have GIS software you can use either version. Note there is a shoreline clipped and water included version of the spatial files.

Second, you could use one of our GeoCoder applications. Use BL function for BBLs to address look up. This will not have property square footage info.
1. Geoservice: Geoservice is NYC Department of City Planning’s web service interface to the core Geosupport system. It exposes all Geosupport functions through simple and easy to use REST representations. Please note: To ensure equitable sharing among all users, we have limited Geoservice to 10,000 records a user per 24 hours. Once this number is exceeded, the user will be blocked from accessing Geoservice for 24 hours. Users can request an access key by emailing *****@planning.nyc.gov
2. Geosupport Desktop Edition: Download the desktop geocoding application and consult the user guide or FAQ if you have any questions.

We received your inquiry from the NYC Open Data Helpdesk. Our response is as follows:
Thank you for your request with New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) on free parking on NYC streets. DOT does not track free parking locations around New York City, usually street that does not have a parking regulation sign has free parking.
You may use our interactive map to identify street parking regulations signs on every city block.

Hello, I wanted to ask what is the status of the dataset Lobbyists Fundraising and Political Consultant reports, which was due to be published on 12/31/2024. This important dataset was discussed at a 4/19/2024 City Council hearing (Gov Ops committee) in relation to pending legislation (Intro 742-2024), and having it public is of great value, especially in an election year, when much of the activities included in those reports occurs. We would appreciate any information on status of this dataset. Thank you

Can you please provide a similar dataset to DOB NOW: Safety – Facades Compliance Filings for the new Parking Structures tab in DOB NOW?
Secondly, can you please include a dataset for the new Certificate of Occupancy feature that recently migrated to DOB with links to PDFs of COs?
Response
There is currently no plan in place to release a data set on the Open Data portal with links to PDFs for certificates of occupancy.

I am writing to inquire about the possibility of accessing archived data for GreenThumb community gardens. I was able to access one of the Archived dataset that was updated on May 9, 2022, on this webpage: ARCHIVED NYC Greenthumb Community Gardens.
Access to past data would be really helpful, as this would allow me to investigate many interesting topics, including where new gardens are being added over time and their impact. Such analysis could provide important insights into the development and distribution of community gardens across New York City. I'd be happy to share the results with the City of New York if that's helpful.
Thank you very much for your time and assistance.
Response
I’ve spoken with the GreenThumb division here at Parks and they informed me that they have data for the establishment of some gardens but not all, as record keeping going back to the establishment of many of the gardens wasn’t the most ideal years ago. You mentioned you’re interested in the distribution of gardens across NYC over time – do you have a particular time frame in mind? I’ll see what kind of information I can gather to share with you.
In the meantime, they have informed me that figuring out this historical data (and eventually posting to Open Data!) is something they are interested in doing.
