Thank you for contacting NYC Open Data. You can look up building-level transactions at https://www.nyc.gov/site/finance/property/acris.page. For unit-level transactions, you might want to contact the building management company or coop board. Best of luck!

I have a very pie in the sky sort of wish. I'd like a very high quality picture of NYC street quality. Could we query the ECUs of government vehicles to get an up to date picture of potholes/cracks in the streets?
Response
Thank you for your request. The data you requested, up to date pictures of potholes/ cracks in the street from ECUs, does not meet Open Data publishing criteria. You can make a request under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) for photo/picture on NYC Open Records: https://a860-openrecords.nyc.gov/

Dear NYC Open Data Team,

My name is *****, a graduate student in *****. I am developing a thesis with professor ***** on the citywide geography of NYC park renovations and their relationships with park use, access, and neighborhood context. I have reviewed the public Capital Project Tracker, Parks Properties, and related Open Data datasets and am building a GIS-based project inventory before narrowing my final research question.

Could this inquiry please be forwarded to the NYC Parks Open Data Coordinator or Capital Integrated Data Solutions team? I am seeking guidance on whether Parks maintains downloadable historical records beyond the current tracker, especially stable project/park IDs; archived, cancelled, paused, or merged projects; actual full/partial closure and public reopening dates; project GIS footprints; pre/post facility changes; designer/consultant/contractor fields; and date-revision histories or document indexes. I would be happy to file a narrowly scoped OpenRecords request after learning which records are maintained.

Thank you very much.

Dear NYC Open Data Team,
Thank you again for your previous assistance with my request for archived NYC building footprint data.
In my earlier request, I received the archived BUILDING and BUILDING_HISTORIC datasets for 2018–2022, and I was also informed that the earliest available historical building footprint data dates back to 2017.
I would now like to make a follow-up request for the remaining archived versions needed for my academic research.
Specifically, could you please provide the corresponding archived versions of both:
·          BUILDING / Building Footprints
·          BUILDING_HISTORIC
for the following years:
·          2017
·          2023
·          2024
·          2025
For each year, I would preferably like to receive the last complete archived version published on or before December 31 of that year, consistent with the year-end snapshots previously provided for 2018–2022.
If an exact year-end version is unavailable for any of these years, the latest available complete archived release within that respective year would also be suitable.
If possible, could you also provide the exact publication/archive date corresponding to each file?
Thank you very much for your continued assistance. The archived datasets you previously provided have been extremely helpful for constructing a consistent annual building footprint panel for my research.
Best regards,
Ruicheng Liang

The columns will be a little different inside the 2025 shapefiles. We now use a different process to publish to NYC Open Data. I extracted the 2025 myself.

Hello! I'm doing a school project on a redesign of the NYC Parks and Rec website, and i'm trying to find web analytics on different sections of the website to find out which ones are most trafficked. The most recent data for NYC.gov analytics seems to be 2015-16, and I don't believe NYC parks are part of this. Is there anything available that could be useful? Thanks.

Are any of the following datasets helpful?
1. Housing Maintenance Code Violations
2. Three-Quarter Housing Report – Violations
3. Bureau of Fire Prevention - Active Violation Orders (Historical)
4. Bureau of Fire Prevention - Building Summary (Historical)

If not, please let us know what exactly you are looking for in a dataset and we can let the appropriate agencies know. From there, they can evaluate if it would be feasible for them to release that data.

MOCJ releases an annual report to the New York City Council, per LL 87/2017,  on illegal conversions of dwelling units for other than permanent residence purposes. ). This report takes the form of a spreadsheet, with each tab containing a different data element outlined in the law. The reports go back at least to 2022.

By being submitted to Council, these reports are already approved for public release, but are not on Open Data and thus difficult to access by researchers, advocacy groups, etc.. The public would benefit by having access to this data, as it provides insight to short term housing abuse at the council district level, and a list of individual fines issued.

MOCJ should upload these spreadsheets to Open Data, ideally.

Please reach out to afarber@council.nyc.gov and I can send an example of the most recent report!

I am looking for weekly or monthly data on the breakdown of how much tonnage of curbside residential food scraps were sent to the Staten Island Compost Facility vs the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant (I believe via the Varick Ave Transfer Station) vs sent elsewhere in the region, ie to be codigested at Pine Island in Massachusetts). With this, I am trying to answer what actually happens with our city's food scraps, how much of the food scraps coming out of our compost bin is composted (vs digested), how utilized are our current food scrap wastestreams, and how much do these utilization numbers fluctuate based on time of year. Most importantly, I want to be able to answer: as collected food scrap tonnage goes up, how does that affect where it is sent and the proportions to which it is sent there.
Response
DSNY is not able to provide the data that you are requesting. Please note the following:
Many organics facilities, such as Waste Management’s Varick Avenue Transfer Station in Brooklyn, receive material from multiple sources, and then combine, clean, and send material to multiple beneficial reuse locations. Individual tons are not trackable from source to end use, therefore DSNY uses aggregated information for reporting.
- NYC DEP publishes monthly tonnage of food scraps and sludge processed at the Newtown Creek WRRF on their Biogas-to-Grid Data Reporting page and on OpenData.
- DSNY's 2025 Zero Waste Report (Page 23) lists organics processing facilities, tons received, and recovery rates for each facility, including for DEP's Newtown Creek Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility and Waste Management's Varick Avenue CORe Facility. This data is published annually.
- DSNY's draft 2026 NYC Solid Waste Management Plan (Page 94) includes the tons of food scraps per day processed by DEP's Newtown Creek WRRF, and a description of anaerobic digestion of food waste.
- Other related data is available on Open Data:
- Data regarding DSNY monthly tonnage: DSNY Monthly Tonnage Data
- Disposal vendors DSNY uses: DSNY Disposal Vendors
- DSNY districts associated with specific disposal vendors: DSNY Districts With Disposal Vendor Assignments

Good afternoon,

I’m reaching out regarding the OATH Hearings Division Case Status / ECB data.

Our company provides search services to title companies in connection with real estate transactions. I understand that, as of May 4, 2026, respondent first names were removed from the OATH dataset available through NYC Open Data.

For title searches, the respondent’s first name is very important in properly identifying potential matches and distinguishing between individuals with the same last name.

I was therefore wondering whether there is a way for a title or search service company to obtain authorized access to OATH/ECB data that includes the respondent’s first name, whether through an API, bulk data feed, data extract, or another type of service-company access.

If this request should be directed to OATH or another department, I would appreciate it if you could let me know the appropriate contact.

Thank you for your assistance.

To the NYC Open Data team,

I run NeighbourhoodIQ (tentative, not yet made public), a web application showing a home buyer the public-record context of a single address — schools, hazards, local services, and the property's sale history. I would like to include New York City using the Department of Finance's Citywide Annualized Calendar Sales Update (w2pb-icbu), and would be grateful for a line confirming the Terms of Use permit it.

I ask because the dataset sets no licence — neither license nor licenseId is populated — so what governs is a chain: NYC Open Data's terms say the user "agrees to all of the Terms of Use of NYC.gov", and those state that materials "contained in or displayed on NYC.gov … are the property of the City of New York. All rights are reserved."

My reading is that the reserved-rights clause addresses the website rather than the datasets the City publishes for reuse. But that is my inference, and I would rather have it confirmed.
Could you confirm whether the following is permitted:
1. Querying the API live, one property at a time, when a visitor looks up a specific address — no bulk download and no mirror.
2. Displaying, for that property, the sale date, price and building class, attributed to the New York City Department of Finance.
3. Doing so in a commercial product. The application is a commercial service, which is why I am asking rather than assuming.

Two things I will state rather than leave you to ask:
- No party names. This dataset carries none. And where the application already reads ACRIS, party names live in the separate Parties dataset (636b-3b5g), which it never queries — only Master (bnx9-e6tj) and Legals (8h5j-fqxa).
- No implied qualification. This dataset has no deed type or arm's-length flag, so a $0 transfer is not distinguishable from a market sale. Where the record does not say, the application says it does not know rather than presenting a guess as a fact.

One question for the Department of Finance, if it can be passed on: the Open Data copy updates annually and runs through December 2025, while the rolling sales files cover the most recent twelve months. Is there a machine-readable route to current-year data other than the rolling spreadsheets?
Happy to follow any attribution wording or rate limit you prefer.

Kind regards,
*****
Response
There is no machine-readable route to current-year data other than the rolling spreadsheet. As for using this data in your product: per the Open Data Law (https://opendata.cityofnewyork.us/open-data-law/), users do not need a license in order to copy, reuse, or share the data on NYC Open Data. New York City's open data is free for anyone to use for any purpose they see fit. We do not require, but encourage users to cite the data and share the results under a similarly permissive license. Our team would love to see the results of your analysis! Once they're done, please submit any project that uses NYC Open Data to be featured on our Project Gallery (https://opendata.cityofnewyork.us/projects/) via this submission form: https://opendata.cityofnewyork.us/project-submit/.

I am requesting a public NYC DOB Open Data dataset or API-accessible view that identifies legacy BIS electrical permits that are in Abandoned, Inactive, Location Problem, Objection, or other unresolved/problem status, and shows whether those permits have been reinstated, refiled, inspected, completed, administratively closed, or otherwise resolved through DOB NOW: Build.

The question I am trying to answer is:

For each legacy BIS electrical permit that appears abandoned or unresolved, has that permit been resolved through DOB NOW: Build, and if so, what DOB NOW job/filing number, inspection result, Pass-Final date, Complete date, or administrative closure action is linked to the original BIS permit?

This request is not for a single-property lookup. It is a public-interest dataset request intended to help licensed electricians, electrical contractors, property owners, expeditors, design professionals, and DOB staff track legacy BIS electrical permits affected by the transition from BIS to DOB NOW.

The requested dataset should include, where available:

- BIS job/control number
- BIS permit number
- Borough
- BIN
- Block and lot
- Property address
- Licensee name
- Business name
- Electrical license number
- Permittee
- BIS permit/application status
- Abandoned status
- Inactive status
- Location Problem status
- Objection flag
- Objection status
- Original filing date
- Permit issue date
- Permit expiration date
- Abandonment/status date
- Last BIS update date
- DOB NOW job number, if linked
- DOB NOW filing number, if linked
- DOB NOW reinstatement flag
- Referenced BIS job/control number entered in DOB NOW
- DOB NOW filing status
- DOB NOW permit status
- DOB NOW inspection status
- Pass-Final date
- Complete date
- BIS inactive date
- Administrative closure date
- Closure reason
- Work type
- Electrical scope summary
- Job description

The most important data element requested is the link between an abandoned BIS electrical permit and any DOB NOW: Build filing that reinstates, refiles, satisfies, or administratively closes that BIS permit.

DOB guidance indicates that abandoned BIS electrical permits may be reinstated in DOB NOW: Build, but there does not appear to be a clear public dataset/API that allows the public to track this transition from BIS to DOB NOW.

Publishing this dataset would improve transparency, reduce duplicate filings, support compliance tracking, help licensed electricians and owners resolve old permits, and provide a clearer public record of how legacy BIS abandoned electrical permits are being handled after the DOB NOW transition.

The DOB NOW: Elevator Safety Compliance dataset (e5aq-a4j2) publishes device numbers, device status, filing dates, and inspection dates — but it does not include the Witnessing Agency information that appears on each compliance filing in the DOB NOW portal (the Witnessing Agency Director/Co-Director and Witnessing Agency Inspector blocks: business name, license number, and agency certification number).
We'd like to request that these witnessing-agency fields be added to the published elevator compliance dataset.
There is a clear precedent within your own open data: the DOB NOW Boiler Compliance dataset (52dp-yji6) already publishes the applicant's business name and license number for each filing. The same information exists on elevator compliance filings and is already displayed publicly in the DOB NOW portal — it simply isn't included in the elevator dataset's published fields. Adding it would bring the elevator dataset in line with what DOB already provides for boilers.
This data supports legitimate compliance-verification work for building owners and licensed agencies confirming inspection and filing status across their portfolios.

Thank you for your request, someone from the DOT Transportation Planning team will reach out to provide the requested data. DOT will schedule a data enhancement in the coming weeks to add Shelter ID and Bus Stop ID to one table on Open Data.

Hello NYC Open Data Team,
I am writing to request archived versions of the following NYC Open Data dataset:
Dataset name: BUILDING / Building Footprints
Dataset identifier: 3g6p-4u5s & s5zg-yzea
Data provider: NYC Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI)
The dataset description states that previously posted versions are retained in accordance with Local Law 106 of 2015 and can be provided upon request.
For an academic research project examining annual building conditions in New York City, I would like to request the last archived public version of this dataset published on or before each of the following dates:
- December 31, 2018
- December 31, 2019
- December 31, 2020
- December 31, 2021
- December 31, 2022
If no archived version is available on a specified date, please provide the most recent version published before that date.
I would prefer the original Shapefile ZIP files, including all associated attribute and projection files. GeoPackage or GeoJSON files would also be acceptable if the original Shapefiles are unavailable.
Could you also provide the exact publication or archive date corresponding to each supplied version? This information is important for documenting the temporal coverage of the data.
This request concerns complete archived public releases of dataset 3g6p-4u5s, rather than records filtered by the Construction Year field.
If possible, I would also like to request the corresponding year-end archived versions of the BUILDING_HISTORIC dataset, dataset identifier s5zg-yzea, for the same dates. Having both datasets from aligned publication dates would help ensure that current and historical building geometries are reconstructed consistently.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Best regards,
XXX
Response
We have made zip files of this data temporarily available to download at the following links. The name of the item corresponds to the dataset (building or building_historic). The date published (YYYYMMDD) is the second part of the item name.

Hello,
We are integrating official NYC public datasets into an internal real estate analytics system and are trying to identify the authoritative machine-readable source for Place of Assembly (PA) and Temporary Place of Assembly (TPA) information.
Could you please clarify:
1. Is there an official NYC Open Data dataset or SODA API that contains PA/TPA records?
2. If yes, could you provide:
- the dataset ID;
- the official API endpoint;
- the bulk download location (if available);
- the update frequency;
- the stable record identifier.
1. If no Open Data dataset currently exists, is there another official machine-readable source that should be used instead?
2. Is there a public roadmap or expected publication date for this dataset?
Thank you for your assistance.
Response
The data set containing PA/TPA filings is DOB NOW: Build - Job Application Filings, where eyou will find Place of Assembly (Work Type) and Temporary Place of Assembly (Work Type) column headers. Once there and viewing the data, you will find additional resources you're looking for by clicking on the "Actions" dropdown item.

DOB Now -> Device -> Elevator -> Enter (***) as example

It will display Tab "SAFETY: Compliance Filings" and there 2 tables: "Inspection/Test Report (ELV3)" and "Affirmation of Correction (ELV29)"

Please we are requesting this dataset for a long time! Thank you!

We received your inquiry from the NYC Open Data Helpdesk. Our response is as follows:

Your request for ELV3 and ELV9 data has been noted for review and possible inclusion in a future release. Please note that the DOB NOW public portal does in fact work and can be utilized. I'm requesting a dataset of NYC's public outdoor table tennis (ping pong) tables. NYC Parks already maintains this information as a public web directory (nycgovparks.org/facilities/pingpong), but it is not published on the Open Data portal — the existing DPR Athletic Facilities dataset covers 40+ sports (including bocce and handball) yet has no table-tennis category. Ideal fields: park name/ID, location (point coordinates), number of tables, and accessibility info. I build League of Spin (streetpong.app), a free community map of public table tennis tables that already integrates open datasets from Vienna, Hong Kong, and German cities under their open licenses; an openly licensed NYC dataset would help New Yorkers find free places to play and put NYC alongside those cities. Question I'm trying to answer: where can anyone play table tennis outdoors, for free, in NYC?
Response
Apologies, we spoke too soon!
Please see the Parks Inspection Program (PIP) Inventory dataset here and search for "table tennis." PIP datasets can be joined on propID with OMPpropID on a dataset like Park Zones here. This will display 30 sites with table tennis tables, but not the number of tables themselves.
Hope that helps.

NYC's 2019 Open Data plan listed a Department of Finance dataset titled “Coop Data File 2018/19,” with a planned publication date of January 31, 2020. It is not identifiable in the current catalog under that title.

Please determine whether it was published, renamed, superseded, deferred, or withdrawn. If it exists, please provide its stable dataset ID and URL. If it was not published, please identify the current status, responsible agency, and conclusive reason it is unavailable.

Please also evaluate publication of the planned FY2018/19 file and a privacy-minimized current successor containing: borough-block-lot; cooperative/development identifier; apartment/unit identifier; residential/commercial or other unit type/status; unit shares; total cooperative shares; percentage of total shares if maintained; applicable/effective year or date; active/inactive/combined/split/superseded status; and non-personal stable identifiers needed to join releases.

Please include a data dictionary, record layout, code tables, release cadence, data-as-of/effective dates, fiscal-year coverage, status/supersession rules, stable dataset and record IDs, needed RPAD/successor-system crosswalks, source/provenance, and known completeness limitations.

Exclude shareholder/owner names, mailing addresses, SSN/TIN, primary-residence indicators, exemption/abatement eligibility, financial-account information, and confidential tax-return/supporting-document information.

This would allow reproducible research and validation of NYC cooperative property assessment estimates without publishing personal information. Please confirm whether these non-personal records qualify as a public dataset under the NYC Open Data Law and, if so, provide an expected publication date or next administrative step. If not, please give the final reason and identify any public dataset that supersedes it.
Response
Based on the description, this data is available in another dataset.

You should use the NYC Open Data Property Valuation and Assessment Data Tax Classes 1,2,3,4 dataset. (https://data.cityofnewyork.us/City-Government/Property-Valuation-and-Assessment-Data-Tax-Classes/8y4t-faws/about_data)

Hello!

My name is ** and I work for *** a nonprofit organization that provides social services to 20,000+ New Yorkers of all ages. Many of our constituents live in NYCHA developments, as we operate several community centers on NYCHA properties. We are trying to conduct a Community Assessment to better understand the communities and families we serve, beyond those who walk in our doors every day. As the agency's *** I've been charged with trying to gather the available data. I have taken an opendata training, however, I'm still experiencing some issues.

When searching for NYCHA datasets, I found a number of datasets that are broken down by individual development, but only contain information about the physical buildings. My best lead has been the "NYCHA Resident Data Book Summary" however, data is aggregated at a borough level, and I'm wondering if it is possible to access the data which is aggregated and compiled by development instead.

Any clarity on if this data is accessible, and/or guidance on how to get it would be greatly appreciated!

Response
Thank you for the inquiry. The Municipal Archives collections include records of burials in the City Cemetery at Hart Island. They date from 1872 to the 1960s (with gaps in the 1950s and 60s). I am attaching an image of a sample page from a 1941 ledger. You will see in the “Remarks” column that there are references to disinterment. The Hart Island information is not arranged or indexed by place of re-burial, or veteran’s status, and there are not separate ledgers or records of disinterments. However, if names and dates of persons removed from Hart Island and re-buried at the FDMP are known, it might be possible to find the relevant listing in the Hart Island ledger.

Is this something DPR could publish on the Open Data portal? Thank you.

I am requesting that DOHMH publish Community Health Survey estimates aggregated at the Neighborhood Tabulation Area (NTA) geography rather than only at the larger United Hospital Fund neighborhood and community district geographies currently available.
Core measures of interest include adult diabetes prevalence, adult obesity prevalence, adult hypertension prevalence, self-reported physical activity in the past 30 days, and self-rated health status. Multi-year estimates from 2018 forward would be ideal where sample sizes permit reliable NTA-level reporting.
The question this data would help answer: how do chronic disease prevalence and physical activity patterns vary within community districts, not just across them? Current geographies are too coarse to surface meaningful within-neighborhood disparities. Brownsville is one community district but contains multiple NTAs with substantially different health profiles. Aggregating at NTA geography would allow researchers, foundations, hospital community benefit offices, and city agencies to identify and address disparities that current geographies obscure.
NTA-level health estimates are particularly valuable for integrated equity analysis because much of NYC's other neighborhood-level civic data (housing, programming, facility access) is already available at finer geographies. Harmonizing health data to NTA geography would make cross-domain equity research substantially easier and would complement the recently submitted nominations for DPR rec center attendance, DYCD program enrollment, DPR free public programs, and DFTA older adult center fitness participation data.
Response
The Community Health Survey is sampled at the UHF level to 1) be able to generate reliable estimates at the UHF level and 2) lessen the chance of respondent identification based on survey data. UHFs are an aggregation of zip codes (see here for more information: https://www.nyc.gov/assets/doh/downloads/pdf/ah/zipcodetable.pdf). Since the data are not sampled at the NTA or census track level, we cannot generate estimates for that geography.

I am requesting a public NYC Open Data dataset for Department of Buildings CCD1 and ZRD1 determination requests and final determinations.

The dataset should include structured information for Construction Code Determinations and Zoning Resolution Determinations, including pre-determinations, determinations, and appeals where applicable. Suggested fields include determination type, request type, DOB NOW job number, BIS job number if applicable, BIN, borough, address, block and lot, filing type, work type, applicant or filing representative if publicly available, date submitted, date determined, status, outcome, cited Construction Code or Zoning Resolution sections, issue topic, determination subject, final determination text or summary, public PDF or document link, related objection number, related determination or appeal number, and last updated date.

This dataset would help architects, engineers, code consultants, owners, developers, and the public understand how DOB interprets the Construction Codes and Zoning Resolution. A searchable dataset would improve transparency, reduce repetitive inquiries, support more consistent filings and plan review, and help practitioners identify how recurring technical and zoning issues have been resolved.

If full determination documents cannot be published, I request that DOB publish at least an index of CCD1 and ZRD1 determinations with the fields above and links to any publicly available records. Personally identifying or sensitive information can be redacted as needed.

I wanted to get more years of the "DOHMH New York City Restaurant Inspection Results" dataset. I'm particularly interested in the years of 2018 to 2021. I'm doing research on social networks and small businesses (restaurants in particular) in Manhattan's Chinatown during the COVID-19 pandemic. This dataset is the most comprehensive list of all operating restaurants.
Response
Thank you for your inquiry. The NYC Restaurant Inspection dataset contains records for the past 3 years. If you would like to access the information for 2018 to 2021, please submit a FOIL request to recordsaccess@health.nyc.gov.

421a exemption records history. Current data sets do not include historical information from 1970s+. Data request for all 421a exemptions including the beginning & end dates of exemptions. Similar to J-51 Exemption and Abatement (Historical) information but for the 421a program instead
Response
Our website (https://www.nyc.gov/site/finance/property/benefits-421a.page) has a number of lists that indicate if a property has (or had) a 421-a exemption for the years FY 2014 through FY 2026 (there are two distinct datasets – one from FY 2014-2024, then other for FY 2026). We will work to update the older dataset to encompass FY 2025 and FY 2026, and will post the list of FY 2027 421-a exemptions by mid-July. Please note that the dataset for FY 2014-2024 has the start and end year of most of the 421-a properties, many which go back a number of years.

For properties not listed on the datasets mentioned above, please submit a FOIL request through DOF Legal (https://www.nyc.gov/site/finance/about/foil-requests.page). We will research these as we receive them.

DFTA operates Older Adult Centers across NYC that provide movement, fitness, and wellness programming for seniors, including balance classes, walking programs, dance, yoga, and evidence-based fall prevention curricula. Participation data at the center level is not currently available through NYC Open Data.
This gap is particularly significant because NYC's senior population is growing, mobility challenges are a documented concern for aging New Yorkers, and movement programming is one of the most direct interventions available to extend healthspan and reduce fall risk. Without center-level participation data, it is impossible to identify which neighborhoods have strong senior movement engagement, which have underutilized facilities, and where targeted outreach or programming expansion would have the greatest impact.
This dataset would directly inform the Movement Opportunity Index, a neighborhood-scale framework scoring movement equity across NYC (movementopportunityindex.com), which incorporates senior movement access as part of its participation dimension. It would also support DFTA's own planning work, researchers studying aging in place and healthspan, and community organizations serving senior populations.
The data is already collected by DFTA as part of standard program reporting. Publishing aggregated participation by center, with appropriate privacy protections, would not require new collection infrastructure.
Response
Based upon the data that you requested, NYC Aging plans to add a new “Activity Attendance by Location” dataset to our next Open Data Plan. This dataset will include attendance information for movement classes and other activities held at NYC Aging funded centers. The expected release date for this dataset is May 2027, because we’re currently updating the client tracking system for our providers, which affects our reporting capabilities.
