Overview
Our school is a close-knit learning community where teachers create a family-type environment focused on technology and the arts. We focus on the individual student and foster an environment that encourages students to take risks. Our focus on transitional bilingual courses, monolingual courses, and dual language education in Spanish and English supports academic excellence across all content areas. We engage our parents in school-wide events and gatherings focused on building community. Our parents are at the heart of our efforts. Parents appreciate our non-negotiable uniform policy, excellent discipline and communication protocol, and our administration's open door policy. Many of our students are new arrivals from the Dominican Republic. Our school engages in a variety of programs celebrating literacy and the arts as well as STEM across grades.

Overview
Our teacher-designed curriculum is tailored to both challenge and support the needs of our students. As an Apple ConnectED school, every student is given an iPad and every classroom has the technology necessary to engage in feature rich, interactive activities. Our school offers a variety of after-school programs in partnership with the Inwood Community Center. We offer a one-to-one tutoring program, Saturday Enrichment, and a Saturday Academy for students who require additional support in ELA and math. Our school also has a student advisory/ambassador program designed to teach students the skills they need to become leaders in their community. Our school offers art and music and we have the only middle school marching band in NYC, the Tiger Band! We are also an Urban Advantage school. Urban Advantage is a program for middle school students to take field trips to educational institutions such as the Bronx Zoo, and Hall of Science, to enrich Science instruction. I.S. 52 is also a participant of the Games 4 Change student challenge, where students learn how to create and publish their own video games around an important social theme. Starting in the 2017-2018 school year, we will also be offering instruction in Computer Science.

Hamilton Grange Middle School
Overview
"The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals...the complete education gives one not only power of concentration, but worthy objectives upon which to concentrate." -Martin Luther King, Jr. Hamilton Grange is founded on the desire to build intelligence and character in our students, because in the words of Dr. King, "that is the goal of a true education." We teach argumentative writing throughout all content areas. It is the foundation of each of our classes because we have found that it is the most effective means of supporting college readiness and enabling our students to, in Dr. King's words, "sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction." This combination of skills and knowledge will prepare students for both college and active citizenship. We also champion character development and equip students with the skills and behaviors necessary for academic and social success.

Overview
Students appreciate that our teachers know them by name and are available to give them extra help whenever they need it. Students also like the weekly enrichment clusters offered once a week during the school day. Parents like our uniform policy, discipline system, and the administration’s open door policy. All students participate in a Walk-A-Thon each Fall to support pediatric cancer research. We believe in using field trips as an extension of our student’s education. We are a Salvadori Globe School.

Overview
We are a secondary school where middle school students may choose to continue on through high school. Our program provides academic support that will allow students to begin taking college courses in the 9th grade so they can graduate high school with 60 college credits from The City College of New York (CCNY). Additionally, the arts are used to support instruction across subject areas. Eighth graders take college seminars at CCNY.

Overview
Students find our staff friendly and feel that they genuinely care about them. They also enjoy our sports and physical education program, alongside many special events (including basketball and volleyball tournaments, an ice skating trip, field day, and a senior trip to Washington, DC). Parents like that we use technology in all classrooms, including SMART Boards, desktop computers, and laptops. They also value our visual and performing arts program and small classes. Our instructional staff is bilingual and share diverse backgrounds. All students are immersed in Spanish for two weeks and in English for two weeks in all courses, including: language arts, math, science, and social studies.

Overview
It is our goal to help every child persevere, achieve, and excel. The Common Core curriculum is taught in all subject areas, with a strong focus on writing across disciplines. Students learn the skills that will make them succeed in college and be ready for the modern economy. Technology is infused throughout the curriculum. We offer reduced class sizes in literacy and math, as well as opportunities for independent learning. Parents appreciate the individualized attention that students receive in our small school. They value the open-door policy of our principal and staff, the challenging curriculum, and the variety of enrichment activities that address the whole child. We offer our eighth graders the opportunity to choose academic paths directly related to their intended career. All students attend two-to-three Broadway shows per year. The majority of our eighth graders also take at least one Regents exam.

Overview
M.S. 322 is an innovative middle school with a young, high-energy team. Students experience blended learning: online explorations that bring new life to their class work. An online grade book keeps families and teachers in contact about classroom life and progress. Our iZone School design keeps class sizes low in core subjects and lets students mix across grades. Students can earn high school credit in science. We offer transitional bilingual and dual language programs to support students in understanding content while mastering English. Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) units allow students to learn through hands-on experiences. We are a 21st Century Community Learning Center with arts embedded in our school day as well as after-school clubs. Our Global Partners Junior Program provides our students with an opportunity to interact with students around the globe. The Children's Aid Society provides after-school enrichment as well as medical, dental, and mental health services.

Community Health Academy of The Heights
Overview
Community Health Academy of the Heights (CHAH) provides a small school setting in which students prepare for rigorous high school academics. Students like our beautiful new facility, access to sports teams, tech labs, science labs, a high school gym, and a great after-school program. Parents like the fact that CHAH faculty care about the students and communicate with parents throughout the school year with telephone calls, conferences, report cards, progress reports, parent nights, curriculum nights, poetry slams, health fairs, and potlucks. Our school works hard to reach out to parents as well as the greater community.

Overview
Students love our small learning environment where teachers are able to give them individualized attention. They enjoy participating in community activities. Students also benefit from the use of our constantly expanding access to technology resources including interactive SMART Boards, computers, and laptops, as well as a new multimedia technology laboratory. In addition, they have the opportunity to learn to read music and play an instrument, as well as to participate in chorus and performing arts-related activities. Parents and guardians appreciate the instructional, cultural, and motivational programs that are the centerpieces of our students' middle school experiences and which also provide many leadership development opportunities.

Overview
Students get excited for our technology program, featuring three computer labs, SMART Boards in all classrooms, trips to Google and New York's Silicon Alley, and a MOUSE Squad. All of our middle school students take computer science, allowing students to learn coding, robotics, web design, and many other programs. Parents love our innovative technology and finance programs where students are immersed in a schoolwide economy with School Bucks, financial courses, school jobs, a school bank, and a school store. The school has been featured in The New York Times, PBS, New York Daily News, Wall Street Journal, NY1 News, and the NY Post for its innovative programs. M.S. 223 is featured in Clara Hemphill's book New York City's Best Public Middle Schools: A Parents' Guide. All middle school students receive expanded day programming including academic support, arts, and athletics. We have a strong Spanish dual language program and most students remain in our high school program. Middle school students engage in educational trips and college visits in New York City and beyond including Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington, DC. We have something exciting for everyone!

Overview
At M.S. 224, collaboration is vital to the success of the school. Family outreach is fully integrated into our teachers' schedules. Our parent coordinator also holds monthly workshops that vary from informational to recreational. The School Leadership Team and our online grading system, PupilPath keep our parents well-informed. Our guidance team t work to strengthen the bond with our community through special events for students and families. We expect our students to become caring, respectful, productive, and informed members of society as they move through their middle school careers. M.S. 224 has created an exceptional learning environment due to a dedicated faculty, hardworking students, and a supportive parent association. The rigorous curriculum focuses on integrating skills across humanities, math, science, art, music, and technology. There are opportunities for students to participate in the 21st Century After-School Program: cooking, visual arts, coding, dance, theater, drumming, and boys and girls mentoring. Weil Law Firm provides college and career readiness to our mentees. Students participate in the Mock Trial Competition, Underwater Robotics, and the Guppy Tank App Challenge-which we won in 2016.

Parents/guardians appreciate our emphasis on the success of the whole child, including students' academic and social development. Parents are given the opportunity to collaborate with staff to plan a variety of special events for the benefit of our students. We also provide an extended-learning time for our students to receive additional academic support and more extracurricular activities.

The Academy of Public Relations
Overview
Students like our technology department which contains two laboratories, wireless carts, and SMART Boards. Press Brief offers a supportive forum for students to present in front of the school. Our emphasis on public speaking allows students to gain confidence and self-esteem. Student-centered activities include student advisory boards and shared decision-making. Class trips include Cirque du Soleil, Broadway shows, pro sports, and more. Though our school sets high expectations, the small class sizes enable small group and individualized instruction to meet the needs of our students. Our principal has an open-door policy, holds monthly luncheons with parents, and facilitates a monthly parent hot topic series. Sixth grade students are invited to a middle school orientation. We offer a GPS program for over-age students, Saturday Academy for ELLs, and Regents preparation (science and algebra). Our remedial and enrichment programs improve student achievement.

Academy of Applied Mathematics & Technology
Overview
M.S. 343 is a small school committed to providing a meaningful learning experience, focusing on technology to prepare students for the 21st century. Students enjoy the small learning environment which provides them with both individual and group experiences. They also benefit from block programming (75-minute periods) and looping philosophy (students have the same content teachers for all three years), which allows teachers to understand and support students' strengths and simultaneously address their needs. Additionally, technology is incorporated into all content areas, creating a hands-on approach that students benefit from. Students also enjoy our incentive trips, our extensive after-school program, and club choices. Parents appreciate our online grading system that is accessible anywhere and at any time via internet or text message to monitor their child's academic progress. We have a small and caring learning environment that caters to the individual needs of each student.

Overview
Hostos-Lincoln Academy of Science is an early college secondary school in collaboration with Hostos Community College. Our students enter into a seven-year process beginning in the sixth grade—50% of this year's high school senior class that began in the sixth grade will graduate with an Associate's Degree from Hostos Community College and 90% will have college credit. We have an extensive middle school arts program (visual and theater) coupled with four Regents classes in the eighth grade. Our students can be found at robotics competitions, acting on the stage, or on the soccer field—we have a diverse student body.

The Urban Assembly Bronx Academy of Letters
Overview
The Urban Assembly Bronx Academy of Letters was founded on a single idea: students who can express themselves clearly in writing can do better in any path they choose in life. In addition to the challenging academic work offered, we are also committed to providing learning opportunities outside of the classroom. Throughout the year, our students participate in rigorous inquiry-based high school prep curriculum, regular field trips to arts institutions, overnight trips to colleges and universities, enriching community-building activities, rigorous academic intervention services, and a comprehensive after-school program. During the Summer, our student services team connects students to programs that allow them to experience the world around them, including study abroad, internships, and summer programming. We celebrate hard work, curiosity, self-expression, and service. Our graduates are articulate, critical readers and writers, who are fully prepared to maximize their learning and growth.

Overview
At Brooklyn Studio Secondary School, the needs of all learners are addressed in a fully inclusive setting which encourages each student to be an active participant in setting, monitoring, and meeting challenging academic goals. Curriculum is aligned to the Common Core learning standards and is enhanced through the most current technologies and web programs. Our small setting allows students to feel secure and supported in their relationships with their teachers. Parents appreciate the small size of our school and the supportive environment that it provides their children. Our students are exposed to a variety of arts experiences throughout the day, and continue their studies in instrumental music, digital communication in our high school. Another important factor for parents is that students from our middle school are given priority to attend our high school.

Overview
Our school consists of three grade academies. Each academy focuses on the Common Core initiatives in order to support the developmental and academic needs of every student. Each grade is supervised by a separate team comprised of teachers, a dean, a guidance counselor, and an assistant principal. The mission of the school calls for unity and states: "Together building a better tomorrow today." Each class belongs to a graduate-year cohort which serves as their primary goal at Shallow. Our instructional bottom lines are as follows: academic intervention, using data to drive instruction, implementing collaborative learning environments, language development, and multiple entry points to increase student understanding and achievement.

Overview
The motto of P.S./I.S. 229 is "Home, School, Community." Families appreciate our small school community in which students receive individual attention, including academic and social/emotional support throughout the year. Students like the variety of activities, the service projects, as well as the willingness of the staff to support academic success. Our middle school grades meet in a newly constructed building addition which opened in September 2009. It includes a state-of-the-art science lab, art and music rooms, a new library, cafeteria, classrooms, and a 5,400-square-foot gymnasium. We are proud that 100% of our Honors Academy students have passed their accelerated science and math courses, including the accompanying NYS Regents Examinations.

Overview
McKinley offers something for everyone: rigorous academics, arts, and sports. We offer gifted and honors programs. McKinley has been an A-rated school for many years. Parents are always welcomed at McKinley. Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings are themed and actively involve parents and their children. Information is always made public through Pupil Path, our website, emails, and telephone. Interpreters are always available. We offer laptops, Interactive Boards, and wireless internet. Our mural has been featured on ABC, CBS, Channel 25, and The New York Times. We offer two state of the art science labs and all students receive hands-on science activities. We feature a new business course called Virtual Enterprises Junior Ventures. In this course, students create their own product and market it for sale (similar to Shark Tank). We also offer an Independent Investigation Method (IIM) class where students focus on learning research skills through project based activities. Attending McKinley is an experience, not just a school with classes.

Overview
As a 6-12 school, we believe that middle school is the foundation for high school and college success. In class, students are academically challenged, reading high level texts and engaging in critical thinking. We also believe that middle school is a time to teach students the habits necessary for academic success such as organization and time management. Over the last eight years we have created a strong culture that emphasizes order and structure, rigor and learning, community, and positivity. We are partnered with NIA and offer a variety of after school activities. Our teachers are accessible, and we have small class sizes and give individual attention to our students. We excite our students about learning, reading, and exploring the world. We offer iPads, laptops, SMART Boards, and wireless internet. We encourage our students to continue at UASCJ through high school.
