Notification issued 12-27-2023 at 7:25 PM Con Edison shut down a portion of a steam main in Midtown Manhattan due to a steam release at East 52nd Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue. The incident resulted in the interruption of service to eight steam customers. Initial air quality testing has not shown elevated levels of asbestos. Air quality monitoring continues throughout the area. Emergency personnel on scene will wash debris from building facades and streets in the surrounding area of this mornings steam leak. Residents and business owners should expect a continued presence of emergency personnel as they return to their properties.
