Coastal Storm Update: Light rain and breezy winds increase in intensity after midnight. A few inches of heavy rain and 50 to 60 MPH wind gusts overnight through tomorrow morning may lead to widespread minor flooding of roadways and properties, travel disruptions, scattered downed trees and limbs, and possible power outages. The heaviest rain and strongest winds are expected to end late tomorrow morning, with lingering showers and breezy winds through the early evening. Areas near the shoreline may see about a foot of minor flooding during high tide around midnight tonight. Coastal flood waters will be higher tomorrow afternoon, with one to two feet of flooding likely during high tide. In Jamaica Bay, flood waters could rise to as high as three feet. Road closures and flood-damaged property and vehicles are possible.

UPDATE: Notification issued 12-17-2023 at (Current time AM). The NYC Emergency Management Department has issued a travel advisory for 12/17 and 12/18. New Yorkers are advised to prepare for heavy rain, damaging winds, and coastal flooding. The National Weather Service is monitoring a major coastal storm that will bring moderate to heavy rain, strong to damaging wind gusts, and coastal flooding to the area Sunday into Monday. The window of greatest potential impact will be late Sunday night to mid-morning Monday. Heavy rainfall totaling 2 to 3 inches may produce widespread minor flooding of roadways and properties.
