The Bronx High School for Writing and Communication Arts offers a wide variety of courses and programs for students in the arts. From creative writing, journalism, and playwriting to drawing, painting, sculpture, film and photography we provide opportunities for students to be involved in the arts in and out of the classroom. We partner with Epic Theatre Ensemble, Exploring the Arts Foundation, Open Door, Community Word Project,The Morgan Library Museum, and the Art Deco Society to provide arts enrichment in drama, film, writing, visual arts, dance, and stagecraft. Our award-winning lead partner Epic Theatre Ensemble works with us to engage our students in contemporary social justice issues through acting and playwriting. Our ETA grant expands the Epic program with a dynamic film program. Community Word Project teaching artists work with our students to create and perform poetry and design and paint murals in our school. Our students proudly produce poetry anthologies, short films, a school newspaper and a literary magazine. Through our Morgan Library Book Project grant, our students visited the museum and received training in illumination and bookmaking in our school by Morgan book artists, creating their own books. Five of our students won awards this year for their Morgan books. Our student's art was exhibited in the Bronx Borough Art Fair at the Bronx Museum. Additionally, we are expanding our partnership with Open Door to bring dance, film and teaching artists into our classrooms.
