Art History I and II are one-semester full-time courses, required in Class IV & III (9th and 10th grades). They provide an understanding of the formal and contextual methods of analyzing works in art history. They chronologically introduce discipuli to major themes, movements, and issues in art history from prehistoric times through abstract expressionism. Assessments include Socratic Seminar, analyzing works of art, short and extended essays.
IB Visual Arts is a two-year full-time course, offered in Class II and I (11th and 12th grades). Discipuli investigate and analyze works of art by various artists while developing a portfolio. Discipuli utilize a visual arts journal to explore and develop ideas. Assessments throughout the year include interviews in which students present their portfolio and visual arts journal.
IB Theatre is a two-year full-time course, which began in the 2015-2016 school year, is offered to Class II and I (11th and 12th grades). Discipuli explore theatre history, theory and practice through the lens of a scholar, a historian, an audience member and a practitioner. Assessments include Socratic Seminar, intensive process journals, directors notebooks, research presentations, and collaborative projects.
After school, students engage in studio arts, photography, Stoked, theatre, music and dance enrichment programs at Brooklyn Latin. Public performances are exhibited at least twice a year for these programs.

odeled after the prestigious Boston Latin School and founded in 2006, The Brooklyn Latin School (TBLS) provides a classical liberal arts education, including the study of Latin, in a discip curriculum provides the groundwork for an understanding of the foundation of our society, while also developing the leadership capacity of our students to become leaders in their communit based on the New York City SHSAT (specialized high school admissions test).
The Brooklyn Latin School offers an all “honors” curriculum taught by an accomplished staff. All courses presented on the student’s transcript represent challenging academic experiences t courses offered at other schools. All students are required to adhere to our core curriculum, with four years of Latin, English, history, mathematics, science, and at least two years of a world students can expect a strong—and continuing—emphasis on structured writing and public speaking, as well as an overarching practice of the kind of analytical thinking that will ensure all T the rigors of college work.
The Brooklyn Latin School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School. Under the IB Diploma Programme, all 11th and 12th grade TBLS students engage in a rigorous twoyear course of eligible to receive an IB diploma, which is widely recognized and respected by prestigious universities.
