In dance students study of Anatomy, Jazz, Contemporary Choreographers, African American Choreographers, World Dance, and Group Choreography Projects. Students will learn and demonstrate choreography as well as choreograph in groups with their peers. In music students learn to play an orchestral instrument (violin, viola, cello, double bass, trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, tuba, clarinet, saxophone, flute, or percussion), and begin to work together in small and large ensembles. Students study music notation, music theory, music history, composition, improvisation, and a wide variety of musical genres from around the world. In theater students engage in improvisation, scene study, monologue study, playwriting, and play making, and design, and will read and perform the works of contemporary and classic playwrights. In visual art students use art elements, skills, techniques, and processes to structure visual art works in the mediums of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, illustration, and design with an emphasis on developing well-rounded visual art portfolios. Students will use processes of critical analysis to support personal judgments of visual art works to better understand the range of artistic traditions of different cultures, time periods and art movements.
