A rich arts program with a strong studio and performance component is essential to our students' academic growth. Our studio arts curriculum emphasizes self-reflection and social commentary and includes basic studio art, mixed media, fashion, and design. Our students learn to work in a variety of media including pencil, charcoal, water color, collage, pastel, linoleum and ink print. Students display their work in exhibitions. Courses that provide students with art-technology experience in our newly renovated computer labs include digital photography, graphic design and yearbook. Performance-based courses include chorus, keyboards, drama workshop and musical theater. Student performances take place every year in our newly renovated, state-of-the-art auditorium/theater, where we also screen full-length feature films. We have a long-standing collaboration with BAM and the TDF Open Doors Program and the New York Theater Workshop. Students visit museums and theaters including MOMA, The Met, BAM and the Brooklyn Historical Society. This year, students in our art classes have worked with Thrive Collective, and designed and painted a large scale mural at the entrance of the school reflecting the themes of diversity and community.
