PS 221 prides itself on arts education. Our programs include visual arts, musical, and dance instruction. Our music program includes singing, performing, Orff, recorder, guitar, ukulele, and drums. We perform in school concerts and community outreach. Our 4th grade performs a holiday concert, 3rd grade a recorder concert, & 2nd grade Earth friendly songs at our Science Fair. This year we performed for the Queensboro president’s office during the winter holidays. We also have group of fifth graders in our North Hills Harmonics. Our visual arts program includes 5th grade sketchbooks, art history, and a partnership with Deepdale Cares. This year’s community project created artwork for our school atrium and their coop community. Together students and Deepdale Cares seniors worked painted terracotta pots, stepping stones, and birdhouses. We also have ‘Artify It!’, an art enrichment program. Our students participate in the Square 1 visual arts project. Our dance program includes Dancing Classrooms and our annual Dance Festival. Our theatre experiences included Circus Arts, Marathon Playhouse, Queens Theater, LeAP, and the Queens Museum. Our visual arts experiences included the MET. This year’s residencies programs were Journeys into American Indian Territory and the Art Works Project with visits to the MET. In-house, our annual Renaissance program incorporates a wide variety of enrichment experiences in the arts, such as dance, theater, visual arts, and music. We hold an annual talent show, Family Art Night and an Open Mic event.
