Q44 1
Every year in New York City, the television and film production industry generates over $5 billion and supports over 100,000 jobs. In 2007, a team of industry professionals and educators, encouraged by the New York Production Alliance (NYPA), an industry advocacy organization, began to define how the production industry and public education could collaborate to support a small and rigorous Career and Technical Education (CTE) school. The result was the Academy for Careers in Television and Film (TvF), which opened its doors to its first freshman class in September 2008. Now located on the waterfront at the new Hunter’s Point Campus in Queens, TvF serves over 540 NYC students in grades 9 through 12. As a CTE high school, all of TvF’s students simultaneously participate in a rigorous academic program while receiving serious professional instruction. In order to ensure that all graduates are prepared for the workplace, TvF is committed to providing our students with the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals in authentic work experiences. To date, our school has provided internships to over 160 of our students in film/video organizations such as WNET, Panavision, KAS Stage Lighting, Gotham Sound, Silvercup Studios, Timberlake Studios, Cinemaworld Studios, Eclectic Props, Eastern Effect, Contesta Rock Hair, Navasync, Bronx Docs, Alien Dawn Productions, and The Good Wife.
