Art cluster teachers integrate the arts to the units of study. Through the arts, students use their five senses to explore collage, paint and clay. Students have the opportunity to observe, listen, wonder, create, express ideas, and speak with others - foundation skills for reading and writing. This year, the students had the opportunity to know Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso, Henry Matisse, Eric Carle, Mary Cassatt, and I.M.Pei. The arts allows students to learn about the artist's life, culture, and appreciate art.
The music teacher also integrates music to the units of study. The chorus curriculum is focused on teaching students to understand and appreciate music. Students are exposed to various styles. They may sing folk songs, nursery rhymes, and holiday favorites. Songs help teach basic skills concepts as well as social skills.
