Innovation Diploma Plus (IDP) High School offers art courses in Theatre, Mixed Media, and Digital Media. Our courses focus on using an inter-disciplinary approach to shaping critical art spaces that allow students to explore connections between notions of self and community. Within that process, students are able to re-contextualize both narrative and story through their own use of multi-media and performance as well as use art to explore critical issues that are important to them. Each course has three specific performance challenges and one culminating capstone that function as part of a student’s ongoing portfolio. In addition, teachers at IDP collaborate with outside cultural organizations to offer after school programs in Theatre, Spoken Word, Creative Writing, and Video Production. During the 2016-7 school year, IDP produced two full theatre productions and one Spoken Word Performance. In addition, students were given opportunities to attend cultural arts events, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Broadway shows. IDP is a member of the Brandeis Arts Collective, which provides after school arts programs, including music, dance, theatre, and fine art, to students from attending schools on the Brandeis Campus.
