P.S. 119's goal is to provide arts instruction that facilitates self-expression and builds community spirit. Students are offered opportunities in all of the arts during our regular school day, weekday after school program, Next Jump, and our Literacy Through the Arts Saturday Program. One full-time visual art teacher, Resident Artist in Dance, Music, and Visual Arts, Project Boost, field trips to art institutions provided opportunities to all students at PS 119. Smartboards enable teachers to integrate the arts and technology. Students take virtual tours of world-renowned museums, attend performances, and study great works of art in the classroom and through outside field trips. We celebrate our diverse cultures through the performing and visual arts with annual festivities such as Fall, Winter and Spring concerts, special Mother's Day musical celebration, and Father/Daughter Dance. Social studies instruction includes an appreciation of the arts in each of the civilizations and cultures studied. Our Science Fair showcases student work demonstrating a rigorous integration of science, technology, social studies and visual arts. This years science fair theme was New York City based. Relationships with Dancing Classrooms, Smartworks, Music for Many, and New-York Historical Society have evolved over the years to permeate teaching practices. In the coming year we will expand the Arts Program to include Theatre Arts, and Choral Music during the day and/or after school programs.

The music teacher did not return to P.S.119 this year to pursue his professional performance career. At the same time, the actual student enrollment was lower than projected and the budget did not support hiring a music teacher at that point.
The theater arts teacher returned the classroom to teaching 3rd grade. She was able to offer theater arts in our after-school program.
In years past, we had received grants from Studio in a School. This year however, we did not receive this financial support.
