Q44 1
All students at Bronx Community High School are required to take two arts classes during the course of their high school education to graduate. The courses focus on the NYC Standards, the Blueprint for the Arts and CCLS. In the Visual Arts, these include art making, the historical/cultural context of the arts, literacy in the arts and career and lifelong learning in the arts. There is an emphasis on art making and the exploration of materials in each class. During class students work towards mastery of media and a strong conceptual base for the value of arts in education and as a vehicle for student voice in a community. In Dance, these courses include dance making, developing dance literacy, making connections, working with community and cultural resources, and exploring careers and lifelong learning. Several times per year students are provided the opportunity to visit cultural organizations around the city and, when possible, outside artists/professionals are brought in to classes to teach and discuss about careers in the arts. We offer our students a variety of courses such as Urban Art, Design it Yourself (DIY), Printmaking, 3-Design, Art & Design, Art for Change, etc.
