Central Park East High School (CPEHS) encourages students to work together for the good of the community. This spirit of unity is reflected in the peer tutoring and leader programs CPEHS offers students to help them with their Advanced Placement, Honors and regular academic classes. Students prepare for Regents and the SAT through a rigorous curriculum, after-school tutoring and weekend preparation programs. Community service opportunities include volunteering in soup kitchens, helping out at the ING marathon and assisting the elderly. The Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music is a small school for students seriously interested in continuing their music studies while pursuing a challenging academic course of study. As a small school in the historical landmark building at Morris Educational Campus, School for Excellence has just celebrated its 10th year anniversary. We are dedicated to developing academic, social and cultural experiences by exposing students to civic and interactive educational fieldwork. Our school has multicultural curricula that integrate the arts into academic classes. Our school features extended class periods, small classes, computers, SMART Boards in all classrooms, Advisory and an exciting extended day program. We use traditional as well as portfolio assessments in order to prepare students for Regents Examinations. We begin preparing students for college in the first year with special counseling and overnight trips to colleges. Knowledge and Power Preparatory Academy (KAPPA) International High School is an International Baccalaureate World School (IB) that offers the IB Diploma to all juniors and seniors. Scholars who earn the IB Diploma can receive up to two years of college credit. All scholars are required to complete a minimum of 150 hours of community service and write a 4,000-word senior research paper on a topic of their choice. KAPPA scholars, families and teachers jointly work hard to maintain our warm community and are committed to a challenging program, an internationally-minded education and inquiry-based learning. To complement our classroom learning, scholars travel internationally every year.
Program Highlights
All students are encouraged to study four years of a foreign language (French or Spanish). Freshmen and sophomores study music, while juniors and seniors choose between IB music and IB theatre. The program also includes an extended instructional day, Saturday Academy and monthly Town Hall meetings. University Heights Secondary School is a college preparatory high school whose mission is to be a high school that feels like college. Our school is structured like a college program in which students are able to choose from rigorous college preparatory courses and take college courses on site with college professors. Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics is a traditional, college preparatory high school. Our school is proud to provide students with challenging curricula in a close-knit environment. Course offerings and high standards enable students to competitively apply to the nation’s most selective colleges and universities. Our teachers know our students individually, providing each one with personalized attention and guidance. Student programs focus on four years of science and math with a broad base of liberal arts. Our school offers a small academically challenging high school experience to students who wish to enter the fields of medical science and health. Science courses are embedded into all curricular areas. At our school, the first three years of study are devoted to the completion of all New York City requirements for graduation and examinations, while the last year is devoted to College Now coursework.
