Our students graduate with the skills necessary for success in the 21st century. In September 2015, The New York Post recognized TAPCo as one of the top NYC high schools for art and performance. We are also a STEAM school, which means we learn through exploring the connections between Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math. Our freshmen students major in Theater, Dance, Music, or Visual Studies with the opportunity for internships at world-class arts organizations during their senior year. Our senior class typically achieves a 99% college acceptance rate and are offered over $1 million in scholarships and grants (not loans).

Auditioninformation1
You may audition on more than one instrument. Perform a prepared solo selection (memorized or with sheet music). Bring your own instrument(s) (except piano, tuba, double bass, harp, percussion and guitar amplifiers, which are provided by the school). Audition includes on-site music tasks (may include singing back melodic patterns, tapping back rhythmic patterns, play selected scales, or completing a sight reading, music theory or improvisation task.)
Auditioninformation2
Perform a song without accompaniment. Audition includes on-site music tasks in which originality, pitch, one's ability to harmonize with other singers will be assessed. Check school website (www.tapconyc.org) for suggestions.
Auditioninformation3
Participate in both a ballet class and a modern dance class. In addition to this common audition requirement, a prepared solo is necessary. Female applicants must wear a leotard, footless or convertible tights, and ballet shoes. Males should wear a fitted t-shirt, black leggings, fitted black sweatpants or black tights, and ballet shoes.
Auditioninformation4
Perform two contrasting monologues (one minute each). Perform an on-demand dramatic or movement activity (e.g. impromptu reading from provided script or improvisation). Wear attire that allows free movement.
Auditioninformation5
Prepare a portfolio of 8-15 pieces of original work. Include examples of observational drawings. Complete up to three drawing assignments at the audition. Check schoolÂ’s website for examples (www.tapconyc.org). Examples may include the human figure and drawing from observation or imagination.

Overview Paragraph
We are a small learning community where excellent teaching, close relationships, and high expectations lead students to college and careers. We create a calm, respectful learning environment. We ensure that all students learn to be members of our school community. Classes are student-centered and project-based, with a heavy focus on building skills in the following areas of communication: writing, presentation, and self-expression through the arts. Participation in an Advisory program allows students to develop close relationships with peers and teachers, undergo personal growth, and embark on college trips starting in the ninth grade. We seek parents and students who are interested in belonging to and shaping a close-knit school community.

Overview Paragraph
This is a small high school focused on arts and arts-related careers. Students collaborate on creative projects such as performances, art exhibits, poetry slams, and publications. Each semester begins with an interdisciplinary inquiry project. We use the city as our classroom, taking frequent field work trips to museums, cultural and community-based organizations, and workplaces. The advisory system ensures that all students receive personalized support and academic guidance. Internships in the arts industries such as Music, Fashion, Design, and Performing Arts offer real-world experience and contacts. Graduation is based on an academic portfolio of student work, the creation of which helps our students succeed in their future endeavors.

Overview Paragraph
Our school meets studentsÂ’ individual needs and prepares students for meaningful careers and admission to college. All students will declare an Arts Major in their junior and senior years. We promote community-building by using Restorative Justice to address social-emotional challenges and Circles to address conflict. Teaching artists, in collaboration with classroom teachers, develop arts-integrated projects throughout the year. Students have opportunities in their junior year to spend time on college campuses in the summer, and we conduct college visits starting in 9th grade. Our arts electives and majors include visual art, dance, digital media, choral music, theatre, and musical theatre.

Our teachers provide each student with personalized attention and guidance. We provide four years of science and math with extensive liberal arts. Every freshman will take a year long writing intensive small class-size English course to prepare them for college. Most students take Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Many of our students take college courses though Columbia University DDC and CUNY College Now program. Our students participate in scientific research with university mentors, some resulting in publication. A new SAT/ACT initiative helps studentsÂ’ competitive standings.

Overview Paragraph
In September 1994, the New York City Department of Education, the Center for Collaborative Education, and the Coalition of Essential Schools sponsored the first systemic effort to redesign a large high school in the Bronx. Wings Academy was one of five pioneering small schools resulting from that effort, founded on the premise of helping young people use their minds well. Our primary goal is to develop studentsÂ’ habits of mind, which will encourage respect for lifelong learning, purposefulness, and success.

Early instruction emphasizes the acquisition of core knowledge of the key academic disciplines which students use as a foundation for deeper exploration in the upper grades. Widely regarded around the world as the most rigorous and comprehensive course of study at the high school level, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is integral to our curriculum. In all classes, students experience a strong and consistent emphasis on analytical thinking, and structured writing, and public speaking, preparing them for the challenges of college work.

Overview Paragraph
Humanities & the Arts challenges students to dream big and accomplish even more. Our strong academic focus is coupled with an equally strong sequence in the Visual Arts that culminates in AP Studio Art in senior year. Performance Arts includes theater, music, and dance. Our college-going culture is fostered by a continuing partnership with Queensborough Community College with the Pathways to Nursing Program, Connect to College Program, as part of the high school day program, and Project Prize. Students can earn as many as 21 credits towards an Associate degree free of cost, beginning in ninth grade. CUNY College Now classes are also available at Queens College for eligible students. All seniors attend College Summit classes. Effort matters.

Overview Paragraph
We follow the Expeditionary Learning model, in which students engage in learning expeditions and have multiple opportunities for hands-on learning. Students participate in fieldwork experiences with civic leaders, industry figures, and environmental scientists who take them outside of the classroom and give them a chance to experience the concepts they are learning. Students receive a strong background in science, technology, and sustainability and have many opportunities to apply the ideas learned in class to real-world after school projects.

Overview Paragraph
At Morris Academy for Collaborative Studies our students learn by doing. Our staff connects with students, parents, and community partners to build and refine a framework that supports the whole student as we put students first. Our students work collaboratively and take charge of their learning while developing into creative problem-solvers who will lead by example and thrive in college, career, and community endeavors. The most effective way to achieve our vision is through projects-based learning, a series of data-informed, student-centered initiatives that meet student needs, and socio-emotional support for students. Projects increase academic rigor for students and provides opportunities for instruction to be relevant to studentsÂ’ lives.

Overview Paragraph
Our school fosters a realistic, relevant, and hands-on educational experience for students. We use collaborative approaches that benefit students by teaching them skills they will need beyond high school, such as the ability to work in teams, solve multi-faceted problems, and apply what they learn in various settings. Our class sizes are approximately twenty-two students per academic course, and core courses are ninety minutes long on alternating days. We have planned an extended school day to provide structured time, individual attention, and other supports students may need to succeed. Bronxdale High School helps each child develop the critical thinking skills and habits of work necessary for post-secondary success.

Overview Paragraph
Origins High School prepares students for success in college by building on strengths and being attentive to individual needs. We make it a priority to know our students and their families through our advisory program. Our inquiry-based curriculum asks students to develop questions, conduct research, and prepare in-depth projects that exhibit their learning. Origins' challenging liberal arts education is grounded in small group work, reading analysis, and an emphasis on writing. Students present portfolios of work to panels of teachers and community members twice a year. At Origins, our students graduate as active, confident learners, and problem-solvers.

Overview Paragraph
Our school offers a small academically challenging high school experience to students who wish to enter the fields of medical science and health. Science courses are embedded into all curricular areas. At our school, the first three years of study are devoted to the completion of all requirements for graduation, while the last year is devoted to CUNY College Now coursework. Over the course of their high school experience, students become ‘resident experts’ in a topic of their choice and are required to compile a variety of reports, experiments, and artifacts culminating in a senior year presentation to their peers.

Overview Paragraph
Leadership Institute is a small community-based high school founded by youth and educators at Sistas and Brothas United, the youth affiliate of the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition. Through partnerships with our leading community based organizations: Phipps Neighborhood, The Leadership Program-21st Century Grant, The Future Project, and the YMCA-Rowes Scholar program, the school trains youth to be leaders who take charge of their schools and communities. A focus on Leadership, Community Action, and Social Justice encourages our students to take ownership of their community and gain an understanding of their rights in a fair, democratic society. The teaching of all three pillars would place our students in a college and career path.

Overview Paragraph
Our mission is to partner with families and local organizations to serve English Language Learners who have recently immigrated to the United States from countries around the globe. Our graduates are prepared for success both in college and in careers in Media & Communications. Our school and classes are small; every student is known and supported to achieve. Staff and students work and learn collaboratively in heterogeneous groups. Students develop English language literacy and critical thinking skills by engaging in classroom projects, service learning, and internship programs. They learn to advocate for themselves and their families and to become active leaders in their communities.
