Overview Paragraph
The Young WomenÂ’s Leadership School of East Harlem opened in 1996 as the first in a national network of all-girls college prep schools. TYWLS nurtures the intellectual curiosity and creativity of young women by supporting the whole girl in order to maximize academic achievement, social and emotional well-being, and post-secondary success. Our support structures include daily advisory, after-school academic tutoring, and regular contact with parents. The Young WomenÂ’s Leadership Network supports our school with a wide range of leadership programs. The CollegeBound Initiative (CBI) provides college access support with a full-time CBI college counselor on our staff who guides each of our students through the college application process.

Overview Paragraph
The Maxine Greene High School for Imaginative Inquiry is a learning community in which deep engagement with works of art integrated across the curriculum enhances the intellectual rigor expected of all students. This work is based on the philosophy of Maxine Greene, the former Philosopher-in-Residence at Lincoln Center Education (LCE) and the exploration of the LCE Capacities for Imaginative Learning which comprise our academic language used to support student success. Through our Restorative Practices, we work to foster the sense of self-worth, empathy, and agency necessary for students to become participatory citizens who will create a more just, humane, and vibrant world.

Overview Paragraph
Our school has a performing and visual arts program that serves a diverse population through a comprehensive range of academic and supportive curricula. We offer a nurturing and supportive academic learning environment. Dr. Susan S. McKinney Secondary School of the Arts is a part of the first cohort recognized in New York City as a Nationally Certified Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) school. To ensure that students are College and Career Ready, we have implemented iLearn courses to aid under-credited students in fulfilling their credit requirements. Overview Paragraph
Our school focuses on the language acquisition needs of all students in all subjects. We engage all students in acquiring and developing the skills necessary for success by integrating English as a New Language (ENL) and technology into all content areas of instruction. Our classes are small and our academic program is challenging. We expect our students to transition out of the ENL program and graduate in four years. Students share their native cultures and languages and learn to become active citizens in their new country and use the English language. Our staff works closely with students to ensure progress throughout the high school years and into higher education and the world of work.

Overview Paragraph
Leaders High School provides students with innovative curricula and hands-on learning experiences. Instead of high stakes tests, our students complete Performance-Based Assessment Tasks (PBATs). These in-depth, analytical papers require extensive reading, writing, research, and revision. We foster a strong college-going culture by providing a full-time counselor, offering a college/career elective to seniors, and celebrating during our annual college march. Students join a crew, a small class where they receive academic support, develop character, and reflect on growth. Through these experiences, students learn to embody our four core values of leading, learning, contributing, and exploring.
Academicopportunities1
Performance-Based Assessment Tasks (PBATs) instead of standardized tests (except for the Common Core English exam) fulfill graduation requirements.
Academicopportunities2
Standards-based grading tracks students' progress, and their grades reflect growth over a semester rather than a one-time, all-or-nothing score.
Academicopportunities3
Leaders provides a full-time college counselor, our college/career course for juniors and seniors, and a chance to celebrate at our College March.
Academicopportunities4
Student-led conferences (SLCs) allow students to present their strengths, growth areas, and goals and take the lead in their own learning.
Academicopportunities5
During Intensives regular classes are suspended and students sign up to explore a topic in-depth with visits from experts and fieldwork in the city.

Overview Paragraph
We offer English Language Learners who are new to the country an opportunity to develop skills necessary to pursue college and careers in medicine. Classes focus on reading, writing, and communicating in English while also providing opportunities to maintain students' native languages. We give our students experiences in local healthcare settings before they graduate. Students gain practical skills including CPR and first aid, explore careers through 11th grade internships at local medical centers, and take early college coursework with our university partners. These hands-on opportunities both provide a context for language acquisition and allow students to use their native language as an asset in their service to the community.

Overview Paragraph
Our school is known for being academic, artistic, and athletic while providing a warm and welcoming community. Our teachers meet weekly in either grade teams or departments to create rich and meaningful experiences for students. All students have a CORE teacher responsible for monitoring their academic and social/emotional progress. We have a partnership with College Bound Initiatives (CBI) which provides our students and families with a full-time college counselor. Come to a place where people know you well and are dedicated to supporting your future goals. Many of our staff members have been here for more than 10 years and our graduates often come back and visit. Be a part of the Wagner family!
