Overview Paragraph
Art & Design prepares students for careers in the arts. Our CTE programs include Film/Video, Photography, Animation, Architectural and Graphic Design, Illustration, Fashion, and Cartooning. Our instruction positions students for acclaimed awards and scholarships and facilitates entry into choice colleges. Teachers develop curriculum collaboratively with industry partners and colleagues in higher education. Students learn Adobe Suite and AutoCAD programs required for their field of study and achieve certification. We offer Advanced Placement (AP) and CUNY College Now courses. Our internships enable students to explore art careers. Our mission is to prepare students for college and career readiness through hands on studio work and challenging academics.

Program includes study of structures, space, color, form, with a focus on hand drafting as well as software applications, architectural design, model making, sketching, and AutoCAD. Seniors complete city planning design project to address current zoning issues. Students visit museums and professional studios, design showrooms and hear from professionals. Student projects are critiqued and reviewed by industry partners in order to provide students with specific, relevant industry feedback.

Our comprehensive, three-year, studio-based curriculum immerses students in the pre-production, production, and post-production process. Through hands-on filmmaking, students learn film theory, film analysis, scriptwriting, editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, and gain industry-based technical and theoretical knowledge. Students have access to state-of-the-art equipment, participate in contests and film festivals, and meet visiting artists and professionals.

Portfolio with 8-12 pieces of original artwork created from observation and students' own imagination with a diversity of subject matter and use of media. Please include examples of line drawings as well as value studies of geometric shapes and forms. You should also include a drawing of your neighborhood and a plan of your bedroom or your apartment. Three-dimensional pieces can be photographed. You will be required to draw from observation and memory.

Check School's website for examples. They may include original character designs, drawings from observation, still life, fashion design and drawing from imagination.

Portfolio including two storyboards (each a minimum of ten frames each) depicting a scene from imagination and a 250-word essay describing your interest in filmmaking. At the audition, students will be given a visual representation and will be asked to develop a story that could be used as the basis for a film. Be prepared to address these questions: What is the story about? Who are the main characters? What are the conflicts? What type of film? How does it end? Materials are supplied at audition.
