Overview Paragraph
Our college preparatory school focuses on American history and its interdisciplinary connections. Students learn in a supportive environment, allowing them to grow socially, emotionally, and academically. As the flagship high school of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, we provide insights into America's history through a rigorous curriculum that includes study in art, music (with a focus on opera), theater, and journalism. Our Advanced Placement (AP) program and partnerships with CUNY and St. John's University allow students to earn college credits. Our curriculum is enriched with trips to historical sites, the theater, and the opera, as well as community service, sports, and additional activities.

Overview Paragraph
We are a small, innovative learning community with a collaborative approach to teaching and learning that seeks to empower students to become responsible leaders. We strive to make students part of a global response to preserving our environment. Every student is held to the highest standards and has constant opportunities for intellectual engagement. All students are expected to be college- and career-ready prior to graduation. We welcome parental involvement, which is essential to the success of our school. Our instructional focus is on reading and writing across all content areas. All students are expected to take a math and science course each semester. Our teachers use technology to engage our students and apply learning to the world.
Academicopportunities1
Advanced Placement Environmental Science class takes place in our newly constructed NY Sunworks sponsored hydroponics lab (or green classroom).
Academicopportunities2
We seek to empower students through rigorous instruction to become self-reliant/resilient, responsible leaders, caretakers of the Earth and others.
Academicopportunities3
Students gain hands-on experience by preparing soil, composting, producing seedlings in our green classroom and studying food justice systems.
Academicopportunities4
When students actively build on each other's ideas, ask questions and discuss, they intellectually engage in the work and their performance improves.
Academicopportunities5
We will achieve this by incorporating the citywide instructional expectations and preparing rigorous lessons with the Common Core Standards in mind.

Overview Paragraph
Origins High School prepares students for success in college by building on strengths and being attentive to individual needs. We make it a priority to know our students and their families through our advisory program. Our inquiry-based curriculum asks students to develop questions, conduct research, and prepare in-depth projects that exhibit their learning. Origins' challenging liberal arts education is grounded in small group work, reading analysis, and an emphasis on writing. Students present portfolios of work to panels of teachers and community members twice a year. At Origins, our students graduate as active, confident learners, and problem-solvers.

Overview Paragraph
Leaders High School engages students with innovative teaching and hands-on learning experiences. We support our students as they challenge themselves to step outside of their comfort zones to excel. As a graduation requirement our students complete and present PBATs. These in-depth, analytical papers require extensive reading, writing, research, and revision. We promote college and career readiness by providing rigorous college prep classes, a full-time college counselor, and internships for every student. All of our students are part of a crew, a small, tight-knit, group with a teacher providing ongoing support. Through these experiences, students learn to embody our four core values of leading, learning, contributing, and exploring.
Academicopportunities1
As a graduation requirement, students complete and present Performance-Based Assessment Tasks (PBATs) instead of taking Regents Exams (except ELA).
Academicopportunities2
Our full-time internship/community service coordinator places every 11th grade student in an internship based on their interests.
Academicopportunities3
During our two intensives, regular classes are paused for a week and students explore interdisciplinary topics through fieldwork around the city.
Academicopportunities4
Student-Led conferences (SLCs) allow students to present their strengths, growth areas, and goals and take the lead in their own learning.
Academicopportunities5
Elective courses include 3D Printing & Design, Debate, Graphic Novels, Computer Coding, Dance, Poetry, Weightlifting & Fitness, Photography, and Art.

Overview Paragraph
We offer students the opportunity to earn a Regents diploma with an arts endorsement by adopting the model of a theater company. Our students stage plays, musicals, and their own original works to explore the universal themes of the human experience and acquire skills and knowledge to meet the learning standards outlined by the NY State Board of Regents. We utilize project-based learning and engage students as artists-at-work. Our program provides the college and career readiness skills for students to succeed in a post-secondary setting. Teaching artists work with teachers to create an ensemble for students to work together, learn together, and become strong contributors to society.

Overview Paragraph
We are a small, college-preparatory school that offers a challenging academic curriculum with a strong emphasis on reading, collaboration, and project-based learning across subjects. Students are expected to be highly motivated, active learners with a desire to continuously strengthen their literacy and communication skills. We are part of the NY Consortium, and students present and defend six PBATs (performance-based assessment tasks) before a committee in order to graduate. The PBAT process is rigorous, and helps to prepare students for the research and writing demands of college. Our advisory program ensures that all students have strong relationships with adults and peers in order to support a close-knit, positive learning culture.

Overview Paragraph
Our school values academics, college and career preparation, and participation in extracurricular activities. We offer academic support such as lunch and learns, after-school and Saturday tutoring, and advisory periods during which students engage in college and career exploration beginning in the ninth grade. We are a community of writers. Students compose poetry, drama, fiction, non-fiction, and songs. They write for school publications, participate in poetry slams, act in school plays, make films, and create artwork with professional writers, actors, and artists from our leading partners Epic Theatre Ensemble and Community-Word Project. We encourage all students to take part in extracurricular activities throughout their high school tenure.

Overview Paragraph
We balance arts experiences with college readiness for all students. Students take talent classes of their choice; they become musicians, singers, actors, and visual artists. Partnerships with arts organizations allow students to conduct openings at professional galleries; students co-teach STEM classes with teachers in CUNY's PERC program; and students visit colleges starting in ninth grade through the College Bound Initiative. Students earn college credits through Advanced Placement (AP) and CUNY courses, take on leadership roles, participate in sports, participate in a variety of after-school activities, and are given the academic and social support they need to succeed in school. We value a diverse and richly talented school community.

Overview Paragraph
Modeled after the prestigious Boston Latin school and founded in 2006, The Brooklyn Latin School provides a liberal arts curriculum with an emphasis on the Classics and Latin language instruction. Early instruction emphasizes the acquisition of core knowledge of the key academic disciplines which students use as a foundation for deeper exploration in the upper grades. Widely regarded around the world as the most rigorous and comprehensive course of study at the high school level, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is integral to our curriculum. In all classes, students experience a strong and consistent emphasis on analytical thinking, structured writing, and public speaking, preparing them for the challenges of college work.
