Esperanza Preparatory Academy (EPA) is a dual-language college preparation school. Students master Spanish as a native or second language, as well as academic, social, and communication skills. We offer students Spanish courses with the goal that they will be able to take college and Advanced Placement (AP) courses in Spanish Literature, and become proficient in both Spanish and English. We prepare students for college by providing them with internship opportunities and a mentor that will expose them to college life/academics. Students work collaboratively with their mentors to arrange college tours and develop college portfolios, and have the opportunity to take college courses.

Belmont Preparatory High School was founded in 2002 for academically talented students. The curriculum is based in the humanities and uses an interdisciplinary approach to challenge our scholars in all subjects so that they are college and career-ready upon graduation. We have incorporated numerous activities and programs geared towards achieving these goals including: Six AP courses, College Now college courses, full-time college advisor (CBI), SAT Prep for juniors and seniors; Partnerships with Fordham University, the opportunity to visit almost 100 elite colleges and universities, PSAL athletics, and extensive student activities; International and Domestic Educational Excursions, and National Honor Society.

Academic programs are humanities-based and aligned to Common Core standards which ensure that students are prepared for college and university life.

First-year students are given an additional team-taught science course designed to prepare them for their first Regents exam in Living Environment.

Students in 10th and 11th Grade visit select universities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Students in 11th and 12th grade are provided SAT Prep classes.

Our early college awareness program helps students explore at an early age the academic, social, financial, and personal rewards of college and to address their areas of concern and build on their strengths. In order to facilitate our mission of college preparation, all juniors and seniors are invited to participate in SAT prep courses. We follow the EL Education model, in which students engage in learning expeditions and have multiple opportunities for hands-on learning. Students participate in fieldwork experiences with civic leaders, industry figures, and environmental scientists who take them outside of the classroom and give them a chance to experience the concepts they are learning. Students receive a strong background in science, technology, and sustainability and have many opportunities to apply the ideas learned in class to real-world after-school projects.

Students must present a portfolio of 10-20 pieces of original work including still life, human figure, and imaginative drawing. Students must be able to discuss your portfolio, artistic interests, and area of study. Students must take an in-person drawing test.

Students must perform a song (classical, popular, or gospel) a cappella. Rhythm and tonal memory, improvisational skills, intonation, accuracy of pitch, breath support, and diction will be tested.

Students will take part in an abbreviated dance class, in which they will do barre work, exercises center floor, practice movement across the floor, and learn a short combination. Students must also have a two minute dance solo prepared, reflective of modern, jazz, ballet, or ethnic dance techniques. Fitted black dance clothing is required. Students must have their music on a CD or iPod.

Students must perform a memorized monologue and an impromptu reading. Attire that allows free movement is required.

Students must perform a prepared selection and two major scales. Sight reading, rhythm and tonal memory will be tested.
