Students are required to audition in their interest area of study which includes a writing prompt. Dance: Come dressed in proper dance attire consisting of ballet shoes, fitted black dance clothing, and hair that is short or completely secured on top of the head. Auditioning students will take a ballet barre led by the teacher. Auditioning students will have the opportunity to present a short one-minute dance of your choice and bring your own music. Drama: Prepare two contrasting memorized monologues from a play, movie, or novel, each one minute long. You may be asked to participate in a group theater game. Instrumental Music: This program offers a jazz curriculum for students who play band and rhythm section instruments. We do not have a string program. Students must bring their own instrument, sticks and music to the audition. Be prepared to play a scale and selection of music from a book or solo of your own choice, and sight-read. You will complete a questionnaire, interview, and take a simple test for musical aptitude. Vocal Music: Perform a prepared song without CD/piano accompaniment from the following list: Amazing Grace, Simple Gifts, The National Anthem (Star Spangled Banner), My Favorite Things, God Bless America, Happy Birthday, and Somewhere. Students should avoid Top 40 or Pop music when at all possible. Applicants will also be evaluated on tonal memory, rhythmic and aural skills, and vocal technique through teacher-led vocal exercises. Visual Art: Prepare and present a professional portfolio (work completed on drawing paper, canvas, or photographed) of at least five pieces of original work drawn from real-life observations (including one self-portrait, one still-life, and one landscape). The portfolio needs to show a range of style. Sketchbooks are welcomed as extra drawings. Auditioning students will be required to complete one detailed, shaded, and colored drawing from observation during the audition.

Our school emphasizes the study of American history and offers a well-rounded academic program that aims to prepare students for admission to highly competitive colleges and for a wide range of careers in politics, law, journalism, business, science, mathematics, and the arts. All students engage in a three-year chronological study of American history. This program is taught by certified Project Lead the Way teachers. Engineering students engage in open-ended problem solving, learn and apply the engineering design process, and use the same industry-leading technology and software as are used in the world's companies. Students are immersed in design as they investigate topics such as ethics, sustainability, mechatronics, forces, structure, aerodynamics, digital electronics, circuit design, manufacture, and the environment.

From the moment students walk into the classroom, they are immersed in the mysterious death of Anna and asked to investigate, document, and analyze evidence to solve the case. Case-based scenarios like this one span all PLTW biomedical science courses. Students explore a range of careers in biomedical sciences as they learn content in the context of real-world, hands-on activities, projects, and problems.

This program is designed to build student interest and engagement in computer science and prepare more students for great career opportunities that require computational thinking. The program comprises introductory, foundation, and specialty courses.

The Brooklyn STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Center provides a CTE focus on a range of courses in four industry areas: information technology, graphics, engineering, and architecture. The program includes innovative technical training leading to certification and opportunities to earn college credit and will also offer opportunities to complete work-based learning sequences (e.g. internships) to provide pathways to employment and/or post-secondary credentials.

Our Academy of Hospitality and Tourism helps students develop career paths in some of the world's largest industries, from hotels to sports, to entertainment and event management. In partnership with NAF (National Academy Foundation) students gain critical career knowledge through a series of work-based learning activities including job shadowing, mock interviews, and paid internships.

This hybrid-program allows students to study key principles of the legal field and the scientific aspects of forensics. Students engage in learning the scientific technology and lab skills related to the field of Medical Forensics and how this scientific evidence can be utilized by the court system to reinforce the foundations of the American legal system. Students will explore the field of robotic design using a variety of hands on activities. Students begin with an introduction to the tools used to create robotic devices. As they progress through the series of classes, computer programming becomes an essential and vital element. This culminates in a capstone design project and teaching assistant positions for students to mentor our incoming engineers. Our Robotics Academy offers opportunities for scholarships and research opportunities.

This is an interdisciplinary program for students interested in understanding the natural and urban environment and environmental ethics through hands-on and project-based learning. Students will develop analytical and process skills that will prepare them for college and a career in environmental science and emerging green industries. In addition, students will explore the real-world use of hydroponics and the importance of green living. This culminates in a Capstone Project for Seniors.

Theater and music preparation program with courses in acting, movement, music theory, technical theater, and theater history. Students have the opportunity to perform in school plays, recitals, talent shows, multicultural shows, and Sing!

Our mission is to prepare students for college and career opportunities in fields such as advertising, graphic arts, publishing, journalism, television, and film/theater. Courses are centered on a learning environment comprised of state of the art facilities including Mac labs, the complete suite of Adobe Creative Suite software, 3-D modeling printers, advanced photography laboratories, and a Black Box Theater. There is a capstone project where students finalize their portfolio.

This program will allow students to explore the natural world through hands-on and project-based learning. Students will record observations, develop questions, design and conduct experiments, collect and interpret data, and propose new ideas from their conclusions. Students will have the opportunity to use multimedia to present their research articles or findings as a Capstone Project to panels of their peers in class, science fairs, research symposiums, and competitions throughout NYC.

This is a comprehensive program that is designed to expose students to the multiple functions that go into theatrical productions. Courses include: stage design, theater business, theater management, and lighting/sound design. In addition to the annual spring musical, students may showcase their talents in SING, holiday and spring concerts.
