This is an interdisciplinary program that applies the skills and content areas of the humanities. At World Journalism Preparatory School (WJPS), journalism is a tool used to share learning and practice the habits of critical thinking in regard to citizenship and democracy. Student publications include an award winning school newspaper, news broadcast program, and yearbook. After learning basic journalism skills, students choose a specialty in newspaper, broadcast, yearbook or magazine writing and production while they follow a traditional schedule of classes.

The School for Classics: An Academy of Thinkers, Writers and Performers

The adults in our school community work together to create a caring and nurturing second home for our learners. Our educational premise is that all children deserve grade-level instruction that is challenging, yet engaging, rigorous, yet motivational. The majority of our elective courses revolve around theater. Performances are staged by students guided by their teachers. Additionally, through the AP for ALL Program, we offer Biology, Environmental, and AP Language Advanced Placement courses. In 2018, we will add AP US History and AP Statistics. These courses are open to all students, in particular, those students who choose to follow an intensive academic schedule in lieu of performing art classes. We partner with Medgar Evers College.

Theater: Acting, movement, improvisation, etc.; Teaching artists collaborate with our teachers so that our students have a vibrant drama experience.

Through advisory, advisors meet with their students in order to engage them in activities that promote social, emotional, and academic growth.

All students but especially non-actors can opt for the Science Research path that leads to Chemistry, AP Environmental ,and AP Biology courses.

College classes are also available to our 11th and 12th graders through our partnership with College Now.

A resident college advisor ascertains that each student takes all the steps necessary to be admitted into college.

Our dedicated theater team has developed a rigorous sequence of courses that involve portraying complex characters, scene work, monologues, and improvisation. Students who elect to be at our school begin their high school career with introductory theater classes which progress to the writing and the performing of plays.
